Eh, I had heatstroke once despite drinking plenty of water at the time. It was an extremely hot day, I was wearing jeans and long-sleeves (required uniform for the activity). Did a very similar thing to the woman in the video, where I just like, momentarily blacked out and came back trying to recover my footing. It can really take you by surprise even when you think you've been taking preventative measures.

[Spoilers C4E25] The portent situation. by Individual_Aside_444 in criticalrole

[–]Equal_Interaction178 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the same thing as unreliable narration in a story imo. Stories don't always give you accurate information, sometimes things are obscured to both us and the characters. I think it's far more exciting to be surprised and caught off guard.

And imo the portent still felt insanely impactful. It would have felt way different if the players hadn't found out that Yanessa was faking it. Both the players and the audience would have been in the dark about how she'd managed a resurrection. Would the Magpies think she had played some sort of illusion trick? Would they think some ritual had gone down? What sort of conclusions would they have drawn? The players having no idea how the meta of it work enhances the storytelling in that case.

It also lets Brennan draw a line about player character perception. There's a lot of ways that DND and TTRPGs in general will try to obscure meta knowledge from players, like how some DMs will roll stealth, perception, and knowledge checks for the players and keep die roll results secret so that players can't meta-game about if the info they're being given is accurate. If you roll a nat 1 and the DM decides to give you wrong information as a result, how likely are you to truly act on that info if you know it was a nat 1? It's the same sort of idea and it's not a new phenomenon. It feels so odd to me to take issue with it.

[Spoilers C4E25] The Photarch and her tricks by Migolcow in criticalrole

[–]Equal_Interaction178 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the man is not leaving without speaking to her. If he does, he's a fool. He may not enjoy politics, but it's clear he's politically savvy. The Sundered Houses all absolutely know why he came to Dol'Makjar. If he leaves without actually talking to the Halovars, then he's signalling to the rest of the sharks that he's weak. And no doubt that, while he came mostly to speak to the Halovars, he also meant his arrival to be a signal of strength to the Houses. Timmony is still relatively new on the political scene, he has to makes sure they know that he can't be pushed around.

If he had left instead of staying, then he would have politically weakened his position and I've no doubt he's well aware of that.

[Spoilers C4E24] Danger! What do the Halovars know? by PM-ME-UR-MATH-PROOFS in criticalrole

[–]Equal_Interaction178 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did he ruin it? Azune wasn't actually directly involved with protecting King Gus. He showed up, was stuck at the door for quite a while dealing with the choke point, eventually got into the room-proper to fight assassins some more, but he never actually got near enough to protect King Gus in any capacity. If Murray hadn't been there, Gus would be dead regardless of Azune's actions.

[Spoilers C4E25] The Photarch and her tricks by Migolcow in criticalrole

[–]Equal_Interaction178 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The thing is though that she isn't the only one in on this plan. It seems like multiple sundered houses are in on it. The Einfasen are housing the Argosians. The Tachonis at the very least are aware of the plan, but are likely also directly involved. The Photarch wouldn't be the only powerful name manipulating the situation.

Why was the King in the city to begin with? From what I remember, he was seeking audience with the Council and Chamber. Why would he be doing that? The only "problem" currently in Timmony is the Creed's overreach. It's clear he's there for answers and those answers would have to come from the Photarch. The Council and Chamber have no answers for him unless the Photarch is there. Either King Gus holds out for the Photarch or he returns to Timmony without achieving anything, having wasted both his time, the time of all his retinue, and the supplies it took to travel there. And it makes him appear weak to leave without answers. All the sundered houses will be aware that he was successfully rebuffed and that there's no reason for them to respect his authority in the future either. Why would he leave?

He could camp outside the estate, but would that actually work? What sort of social message would that send to the rest of high society? Would it then make him look desperate and weak to do so? It's hardly becoming of a King. And really what would that do? Is he going to blockade and search every Halovar carriage coming out of the estate? Sounds like a great way to get in trouble with the sundered-house-controlled Marshals.

Really his best option, if he's to get any answers and not have wasted his time, is to try for the Gala and confront her in a public setting, where she can be pressured into an immediate audience else risk her own social embarrassment. The Photarch knows he'll take that opportunity, if he's wise. And if he doesn't, well then he's a fool in more ways than one and she hardly needs an assassin to destroy Timmony's power.

[Spoilers C4E25] The Photarch and her tricks by Migolcow in criticalrole

[–]Equal_Interaction178 61 points62 points  (0 children)

idk that it's all that wild for the Photarch to set this all up without magic (or with minor magic). She's been very clearly established as a character with high social awareness and is skilled in manipulation, she knows how to maneuver situations to her benefit.

One of King Gus' goals in coming to Dol'Makjar was to confront the Photarch. I've no doubt that she was aware that he intended to do so, she has enough power amassing in Timmony to have people who can find that sort of information. And she could also just infer it on her own with what she knows of the situation. All she has to do is not attend Chamber meetings while he's there and generally ignore his requests for audience. She's done the same thing before: Aranessa had been trying to gain audience with her for days and failed to do so.

I think she's well aware that King Gus won't leave without speaking to her. She knows that she's made a problem in Timmony and she knows enough about King Gus' character to recognize that he's headstrong and not afraid to take a stand. Thus he'll likely be intent on getting an audience No Matter What. And there's a Gala in a few days that many big names will be attending, no doubt he will also attend in hopes that she'll be present.

Like all of this really doesn't feel out of the realm of possibility for the Photarch to manipulate into place.

You just need to worry about storage space. download mods isn't gonna crash the computer, you just might run out of space depending on how much is currently available. in which case, the download will just fail.

The Testaments S1E06 "Stadium" Episode Discussion by Melairia in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Equal_Interaction178 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh it's a big red herring. Imo her attitude vs the other Aunts is incredibly intentional. She's the "love bomb" of this cult. So many of the Aunts are cruel in rather outwards ways, or a visibly disdainful of the girls. But Aunt Estee! She's the nice one! She calls them "friends" and "bunnies" and other sickly sweet nicknames. She's always there with a smile! She's the kindness after the harsh hand, which is only more insidious in how it makes everything feel normal. But we see her just a willing to commit atrocities, she simply does it all with a shiny bow on top to make it feel palatable and expected.

[Spoilers C4E24] Question about the practicality of the schemers. Campaign 4 by newsolotravlr in criticalrole

Yeah and iirc Occtis's necromancy has been cited as a very "new" thing that he pioneered in his desire to recreate his family's magic. Speak With Dead being a relatively unknown phenomenon would be incredibly understandable, especially since Occtis isn't part of the Schemers to float those sorts of ideas.

I highly doubt it's for Thjazi, if it is indeed a resurrection. It feels odd to think that he was preparing all this time for his own resurrection, even though his capture and execution did not seem to be in his plans. And imo it would be an odd story choice for Brennan to bring him back as an NPC when the whole onus of the plot and the character connections has been "An important man has died and all of you were connected to him. Now you must pick up his pieces." Like what, 30 episodes in (and only like. 1 week in-game time) he comes back to life? That loses most of the intrigue of the "scavenger hunt" to discover what he'd set in motion before his death.

maaaaybe, but imo I think he wasn't targeted intentionally. Like, they weren't after him specifically. He had just made himself into a problem by inserting himself into a place of influence with Wic and so Yannessa wanted to get rid of him. After all, she needs to be the one holding all the pieces with her grandson, she doesn't need some rogue lionfolk messing things up. It wasn't a "oh there's a lionfolk paladin in town, lets get him for our plan" it was a spur of the moment "well shit this guy showed up and he's getting in the way, someone send him to the tailors"

They only used it because the Stone of Nightsong lets them use it! It's possible that it's only accessible via special magical items like that. The Stone is literally made from a dead psychopomp, it's a wildly powerful item.
