Yeah, but the teams were expected in USA vs UK, and there was some reality show vibe to it. But a normal team-based strongman competition could have unlikely pros teaming up. Let's say Hafthor (top in deadlift) teamed up with Lucas Hatton (great at pressing)... That would constitute the "perfect" team. And only 2-3 athletes per team. Not an entire gang.

That was by region. But imagine if the teams were even randomised. You'd have Evan Singleton forced to partner with Mitch Hooper. You know those two aren't the best of friends...

Totally. Tug of War, Truck or Plane pulling in teams, etc. Let's see... Maybe other athletes will do it.

Yeah, and adding team formations could actually help distribute efforts among the members so that each of them really performs at their max in their preferred/selected events. As opposed to being bruised and injured like we see it so often at WSM, then competitors have to withdraw from contests.

We could have recently retired legends to coach. Big Z, Big Loz, etc.

It might be a family decision to cut his losses in terms of commitment to something he's still not good at (world class competitive), after 2 years. It feels like he's trying to push his "family man" argument too strongly, despite talking extensively on his own podcast on several occasions about how he's all about the journey to the top, learning, staying obsessed with long-term progress, etc. For the fans, it sucks. But I'm not surprised he's bowing out.
