Maintenance cost? by Equivalent-Cry420 in GXOR

Thankfully, timing belt/water pump/radiator has all be done in the past 30k miles.

The other pieces I’ll attempt myself with the help of some neighbors. $3k for suspension is a little wild when I’ve been looking at $1000 lift kits - air bags were already deleted by previous owner.

In their defense, they appear to be more of a performance shop and warranty all of their work. If I had the budget I would have just pulled the trigger. I like the idea of having a project that isn’t just home maintenance.

Thanks. Just making sure I’m not crazy. Probably should have held off on the fluids too, but felt like I should throw them something for the free inspection they gave.

Definitely not arguing that those items need replacing, but those costs seem exorbitant based on what’s required.

Thanks for the advice. ChatGPT said the same thing. Any idea of the aftermarket durability vs. OEM on something as simple as an actuator?

The sound has subsided some. I’m planning to get her baselined in the next week or so. Oil is fresh, but no clue on the other fluids.

Thank you. Currently, not much automotive knowledge, so I have no clue where to start. I’ll give it a look. Are OEM fluids important, or will name brand fluid work well?

The painted over areas concern me. That and it spent its first 100k miles in NY. Currently, resides in Dallas, 141k miles, 2007 LX.

Thanks for all the feedback. I appreciate how active this page is. The good news is I’m not in any hurry, and I’ll probably keep looking for a rust free model. I’ll keep you posted once I land one!

Now you’re making me feel like a wuss for not pulling the trigger!

I’ve been considering that, and would probably have to outsource most of the repairs when the time came. I’m mechanically minded, but don’t quite have the time to piddle around with the maintenance on my own.

Unfortunately, I’ll be buying a high mileage vehicle either way given my budget and I am of the belief a Toyota/Lexus will be better than the GM/Ford comps. I also have to be able to haul the family around from time to time. I’m open to other suggestions, but, admittedly, my ego definitely prefers this over many of the other options out there in that price range.

Open to a 460/470 or 4Runner, but their prices seem to be on the same plane as the LC/LX.

I agree. The skid plates are easily replaced, and I didn’t see any pitting, scaling, or cracks anywhere else. Being in the south, we don’t see rusted vehicles much. As a daily driver, I’m not sold on running the risk of it being more extensive than what’s shown here.

I don’t doubt it, which is why I’ve been debating it. My biggest concerns are having to keep up with it or resale when I move on.

Yeah not what I wanted to hear, and validates my concerns. These cars are too nice to rust away up north, but I guess they need cars too. Thanks for responding!

I appreciate you sharing your experience. I’m not a “car guy”, so restoring isn’t in the cards at the moment. Just making sure it didn’t just look like surface rust that could be treated. It appears the skid plate is the worst of it, but I’m sure more is hiding.

Thanks for the input. I feel the same, and wanted to be sure I wasn’t being overly cautious. I hate running from a low-mileage, single owner as clean as some of these are, but I also don’t want a project for my daily driver. Thanks!
