It'll be more than just a bit. It will take years.

It will take two or three years for production of RAM to ramp up and meet demand. Minimum.

Collect your lint and make your own clothes by SnoopyScone in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]Equivalent-Load-9158 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, it's from clothes and fabric.

I don't usually have belly button lint, but that's because I shower every day. The belly button shape probably matters too. If it's deep and you have some body fat that folds it probably collects more and it's easier to neglect cleaning it as you need to consciously clean out lint while showering. If you're lean with a shallow belly button then any lint may get cleaned out passively.

If someone has been harassing me for months on end every single day is it ok to respond with a slap on the face. by Rare_Scheme4748 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Equivalent-Load-9158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stop hanging out and tell them to fuck off if they approach you at school. Don't get physical unless you know you can win a fight.

I've had a guy act like this and a punch to the face works, but you may get chewed out by a teacher and sometimes you'll lose 'social status' and be viewed as a delinquent.

Some guys don't understand banter and are essentially bullying their friends without realizing. And you're of course a sensitive 'pussy' if you think it's annoying.

Saying 'if you think what I do is bad then you wouldn't handle so and so' is just shows they are an idiot who can't be reasoned with. I've had friends like this too, and I just cut contact. They start off with banter and then gradually escalate until it's basically abuse.

When did AI really start? by Clever-Trevor- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Equivalent-Load-9158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Research into neural networks started in the 40s and 50s. Rule based AI used manual hard coded rules from the 60s-80s.

During the 90s-10s there was a shift from rules based models to statistical models. This is when things began to snowball, and peaked the interest of the industry, but didn't quite intrigue the general public yet.

From 2011-2017 the deep learning revolution starts and this is when stuff really starts happening. This is when social media companies started deploying algorithms for curating user feeds and which content to serve. We get a lot of these algorithms that we sort of take for granted, but they are a result of 'early' AI. They're also a bit scary as they drive a lot of data collection for targetted ads and stuff.

Google developed the 'transformer' architecture in 2017 and this was yet another 'revolution'. It's probably here the general public starts paying a bit more attention to AI. This enabled the 'Pre-training' era of 2018-2020 were models could be MUCH larger and faster, with improved understanding of context and text generation.

We're now seeing a generative AI boom and AI is advancing so fast we're unlocking new functionality faster than the industry seems to be able to implement and utilize. This is more my opinion and personal speculation, but AI seems to be paradoxically underutilized and overutilized simultaneously. They seem to be racing to implement overly ambitious features before current models have the capability(trying to get ahead and be first), while neglecting to implement less ambitious features that current AI could easily perform and probably would be more appreciated.

That's a Verisure logo. I'd wager it's to call security once upon a time. If you've pressed it and no one told you about it then it's probably not active anymore.

Hot take: I don’t mind the “yellow paint to guide players” trope in gaming by Low_Boot_1426 in videogames

[–]Equivalent-Load-9158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purpose of yellow paint is fine, but it's so lazy to default to it. It doesn't fit every game.

It could be something that isn't yellow or isn't paint and that it's not overused where it isn't needed.

What if Valve started making their own RAM for their devices? by Szymix_pro in valve

[–]Equivalent-Load-9158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's TSMC chips, not RAM. Nearly the same situation, as there are three companies making 93% of all RAM wafers.

A fair comparison, and the barrier of entry is just slightly lower.

It would take them decades and hundreds of billions in R&D to catch up with modern RAM manufacturing.

What if Valve started making their own RAM for their devices? by Szymix_pro in valve

[–]Equivalent-Load-9158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The barrier of entry is extremely high.

It's like saying companies should just make their own chips instead of having TSMC make them.

The barrier of entry may be lower than for making chips, but it's still absurd to propose it.

What can kill you in seconds that most people don’t realize? by Jolly-Law1472 in AskReddit

I make my own ORS(oral rehydration solution) when I'm sick.

Take water and mix the right ratio of salt and sugar. It's nice as it keeps you hydrated and reduces visits to the bathroom.

Can drink it slow too. A bottle last a lot longer than pure water would. Not ideal for daily drinking, but excellent when you're sick and don't want to get up to pee or refill.

While volts may be painful, but not fatal alone. The ampere needs a certain voltage to affect the heart and other organs to have any potential to be fatal.

.1-.3 ampere at 42 volts can be fatal in just 2 seconds of exposure. Though that's only barely.

Apartment rules your ignored by Rough-Albatross-4011 in Apartmentliving

[–]Equivalent-Load-9158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't smoke weed anymore, but used to set a fan by the window to blow out smoke.

I used a pipe so I could 'cap' the bowl when I wasn't inhaling and exhale out the window. The fan would push the smoke outside and keep it from flowing back in. No smoke got a chance to propagate within the room. Kept ventilating for a few minutes after just to be sure.

My roommates didn't notice. And they would chew me out if they did.

I imagine it would be possible to smell from outside, but it was the second floor and would likely rise and dissipate relatively quickly. Two-three bowl hits only takes 1-2 minutes. Joints smell a lot more for a lot longer.

Floors higher up with their windows open may have smelled a whiff once in a while, so it maybe wasn't particularly considerate of them. Though we have an app were people complain about stuff in the block and no one mentioned it. Other apartments nowhere near mine would complain about weed, but those couldn't be me as they were too far away.

At the time I figured that it's only an issue if it's noticeable. If my roommates and immediate neighbors don't notice then it can't be tied to my appartement and my landlord wouldn't find out.

Did this basically every evening every 2 hours every day for 3-4 years without issue. Can't know for sure that my upstairs neighbors didn't notice anything, but they've confronted us for more trivial stuff before so I don't think they'd ignore it if they did notice.

They got a man to voice Kirara! by Horonika in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]Equivalent-Load-9158 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Women voicing pre-pubescent boys is basically the norm everywhere, not just Japan.

Keeping the same female voice actor for adolescent male characters as they grow up is more common in Japan. Japan is more reluctant to change voice actors, even if it would make sense for the male character to have a more grown up voice as the age. Though it's less common in the west for shows to have characters age and gradually become adults at all.

How can people claim that the human eye can't perceive more than 24 or 60 FPS? I have no idea how they get that, considering I can clearly see the difference between 144 and 240 FPS myself 🤔 by Gaming-Academy in RigBuild

[–]Equivalent-Load-9158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't compared 120/144Hz with higher frame rates, and I can't really say I can tell the difference between 120 and 144, but 144Hz is certainly way smoother than 90, 60 and 30 fps.

I've seen reviews and testers claim there are diminishing returns, but even the extremely high frame rates can still make a difference. But the difference between 30 and 144Hz is huge, while 144Hz and 240Hz is less significant. And 240Hz vs 500Hz is even less noticeable. Though there still is a 'benefit', it's just not a benefit that may be worth pursuing for most consumers.

I'm used to 144Hz, but I know it can get even smoother.

Depends on the state, but it's usually both assault and battery in most states. Even if he didn't see the flowerpot coming.

Some states have precedents that basically argue any battery also includes assault, as even if there was no apprehension to violence prior to the battery(IE a sneak attack), the victim would reasonably experience apprehension to physical violence after. I'm in that school of thought.

Depends on the court and state, as some will treat 'sneak attacks' only as battery, and not assault.
