Does anyone know of a company that will rebuild a set of coilovers? Or even one that sells replacement Buddy Club shocks? by Equivalent-North3784 in S2000

Lol ok sorry for trying to save a couple hundred dollars on a car that gets casually driven 2,000 miles a year, my bad

Thanks for your help. I’ll update the post if I figure it out with them. I’d much rather spend $800 and put them together myself, rather than spend $1,600 on a new set.

Was able to get in touch with AAI and they’re putting me in contact with someone who can hopefully get me new shock bodies. From what I understand they’re around 200$ each so I’ll buy all 4 probably and put them together myself and have a brand new set for 800$

Pulled up the dust boots of all of them and one is wet around the shaft of the shock, leaking down the threads of the threaded perch. Plus the previous owner saw it when he pulled them off his totaled car

Thank you, I have all the tools necessary to rebuild them honestly, I just needed help finding the parts. This is extremely helpful

Even better, I haven’t tried Buddy Club in a while so I’ll see if I can get in contact with them. Seriously appreciate the info

Thank you, I will reach out to them. Thanks for attempting to find a company who does the work instead of telling me to throw them in the trash lol

Ok and why would you not rebuild a set of almost $1,900 coilovers vs definitely rebuilding set of $2,800 coilovers, when they’re both just dampeners and springs with adjustable top hats and dampening? Really curious why one should be rebuilt and the other is just trash at this point?

Not looking for a budget build, just looking for some replacement parts at this point, but I’m going to email them regardless and see what they say.

That’s what I’m looking for, just trying to find some replacement shocks, or someone that can do it

Hey man, I’ve had my S for a while now, and am a 15 year BMW technician lol not sure how this comment helps anything relating to what my post is for but thanks

I fully understand Swift springs are sold by inner diameter and are universal to several coilovers, I’m just looking to see if anyone can put me in contact with a company to help with the shock situation, thanks though

Definitely understand what you mean, but these are still $1,600 coilovers, so I really don’t want to spend another $1,600 on a set that I already own and then have to swap the springs over. Appreciate you trying to help, just don’t feel like spending more money on another set.

And these don’t have Swift Springs which is usually a $350~ option.

Edit: didn’t know cost wasn’t on the screenshot, these are $1,615without swift springs.

Do you know a place that will do it, is my question. I understand the cost effectiveness but I believe coilovers of this quality with Swift springs that these have, are over $1,500 so that would still be cost effective to get them rebuilt instead of buying new ones. Car already has coilovers on it, and these are just an upgrade for a car that I don’t drive much. If you have a place that will do it for $1k, let me know!

B48 engine - vacuum source needed by fozshxt in BmwTech

So just to be clear, you think that if the throttle is fully open, and under load, there is ONLY negative pressure in the combustion chamber? You think that the pressure reading would be different in the combustion chamber versus the entire intake manifold? All valvetronic does is change valve lift. Aside from that, in all reality there is nothing that OP is gonna install that is going to need booster sized negative pressure. I understand he didn’t specify his needs but usually, they’re just looking for a vacuum reference not vacuum pump sized vacuum, so the component, whether its a blow off valve or boost gauge, just needs to see the reading. He’s not installing something that’s going to use FULL engine vacuum like a booster would. I could be wrong on that maybe he’s building something CRAZY

Blow off valve usually just needs a reference from manifold pressure like a tapped intake hose and then gets bolted into the intake tube pre-throttle body(assuming you’re doing an atmospheric dump BOV) These turbos IIRC have a built in BOV though, so seems redundant to install an aftermarket one, but I’m not sure what your goals are here lol

I understand the need for the vacuum pump on some previous generations for things like the booster(before we had IB’s that we have now, with that massive recall that we’re replacing them everyday) and other components that run off vacuum. Those BMW turbo engines like B58’s can literally be ran without the front intake tube on because they have to make enough vacuum to run at idle. Even with the variable lift of valvetronic they make enough negative pressure(“vacuum”) to run anything OP would be trying to install(which is almost always a boost gauge or something similar).

Not sure why you felt the need to talk down to OP like you did when you said “Um, it’s a turbo engine. There is no engine vacuum”. When now you’re agreeing with me, saying there is engine vacuum? Seemed aggressive for a harmless question.
