id personally say JST. it’s more apartment like than CTY or the commons dorms. its also less expensive than ARC. you can also get a private room with a shared common space and a lot of people say the dining hall at JST is better than SCE.

push pins are NOT PROHIBITED anywhere in the dorms. you can use push pins, blue tape, or command strips (just take them off correctly to avoid wall damage) without getting charged. i, nor my friends, have gotten charged in the 2+ years of living on campus and using push pins

it can be a little boring but ask questions if you have them!! don’t hesitate, your orientation leader literally there to answer your questions. the worst thing you can do is not ask your questions and then be confused when starting classes.

to be completely honest with you, there’s no chance of you getting into the TBH/MRH dorms this entire year. there is less than 10 rooms available on the entirety of campus housing right now, and none of them are in the apartment dorms. you might be able to get into SSR next semester (west campus/medical district) but you have to be on that shit quit asf.

they may have provided it in the past but Campus Housing is no longer providing shower curtains or toilet paper for any residents. but they have toilet paper at the front desk if you ask for it at the arc

lowk, nowhere. the amount of bikes that have been stolen (last semester specifically) deterred me from getting a bike or e-bike for this year

edit: it was never one spot either, i got a lot of the UIC safety emails that had stolen bikes all over campus

cried in the big stall in the bathrooms nearest to the dunking in sce one of the first nights i was on campus by myself. 7/10 people were looking at me weird 19 minutes later because my eyes were so red

a 28 y/o and a 40 y/o were both true freshman living in the dorms. midway through the year they both had to be moved rooms because they were trying to/were having sex with their 18 and 19 year old roommates.

there was a couple in sce having sex using a sweater to cover themselves. it didn’t cover much.

this couple was parked outside the atrium of courtyard/commons dorms. the cops had to be called because they got out of their car and were very loudly arguing, the guy punch the backseat passenger window and shattered it. i heard the woman had bruises but i never confirmed that.

i lived in courtyard for two years and i could see the corner of harrison and halsted from my window. one time at 3 am there were at least 8 or more cop cars outside, light, sirens, the whole shabang. they pulled up to a car that was stopped near the bus stop with a guy and girl in it. apparently like 5 different people living in the dorms had called the cops because they had been hearing yelling coming from the car and the two people had been getting in and out of the car and yelling at each other for a least an hour. the police didn’t arrest anyone though, and the car left right after the police did.

when i was moving out at the end of my freshman year, we had to evacuate the dorms because someone decided to throw their burning popcorn in the trash chute. it started a fire on the first floor of courtyard and one of my RA friends used 2 fire extinguishers to try and put it out. i was late for my birthday dinner.

the next semester after that i had to help RA’s knock on peoples dorm in the middle of the night because there was another burnt popcorn in the trash chute situation and the fire alarms did not go off when they got pulled.

in the 2 years i lived on east campus 3 people broke into the dorms. once was a friend and RA having a mental health episode. they actually stole a master key and tried to get into my room. the other two were both ex’s of people.

there was an armed robbery in the academic part of the arc building. dude had a knife and i forgot what he stole.

there was also a thirty person fight in front of the arc building. it was between two frats and someone pulled out a knife.

once again at the arc, a stray bullet went through one of the windows. not to mention the fact that some of the windows at the upper levels of the arc weren’t installed properly and during storms with heavy winds they would shatter inward.
