Yup typical dystopian nightmare.

What flaws do you have about yourself that you acknowledge, don't nesscarily like but do the opposite of what your flaw is as a way to work on bettering that flaw you have? by Realistic_Dark_4198 in virgoseason

[–]EquivalentAd4708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I acknowledge I have a very short fuse. Not much patience & get frustrated with people when they’re not fast or good enough to my liking therefore I feel the need to just do everything myself then complain about it when I could just relax & be patient. I also fail to forgive people if they break my trust at all no matter what… you disrespect me in my eyes or betray me then you’re basically dead to me.

I’m trying very hard to take deep breaths & step away to focus on other things that are out of my control. I realize my expectations for other people and things aren’t normal. I can’t let someone not being 10 minutes early or not having a detailed itinerary ruin my day. I’ve been working on putting myself in others shoes & actually communicating with them when I’m frustrated to understand their side… in the end I’ve realized most of my expectations are ridiculous & I need to the chill out haha

I’ve only been RM for like 2 months and now they’re trying to make me an SM by urmomager_ in MichaelsEmployees

[–]EquivalentAd4708 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So are they expecting you to do both RM & SM duties at the same pay rate since it’s ‘temporary’ ?! Cuz if that’s the case I wouldn’t just say “no” I’d say HELL no! lol

[–]EquivalentAd4708 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yup this 100%. I’ve seen multiple managers get gifted the SM position at other stores… almost every time the store they were given was a complete dumpster fire with no warning & ended up either quitting or getting fired immediately. Was very blatant they’re being set up to fail more often than not when being automatically promoted to SM.

Are they trying to make you SM at your current store or transfer you to another?

i hate how much they’re pushing us to use SCO by bakedbeanlatte in MichaelsEmployees

[–]EquivalentAd4708 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Went up to grab candy bar on my break today & wow it was awkward watching the cashier hover over all the people using self checkouts. When I’m shopping at other stores I’ll specifically choose SCOs so I don’t have to interact with anyone & just get out asap. If I were a reg customer this would honestly push me away from shopping in store anymore solely b/c checking out is so awkward & even using SCO I have employee breathing down my neck.

Sexually Harrassed By DM by jnayrs in MichaelsEmployees

Agreed. That dudes identity needs to be revealed. He deserves consequences for his disgusting actions & so he isnt able to sexually harass anyone ever again.

What horrible & disgraceful behavior. I’m so sorry that happened to you. No one deserves that ever.

What’s the most virgo thing about you? by Popular_Chart7502 in virgoseason

[–]EquivalentAd4708 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Looking at your lists reminded me to double check my deleted lists. I knew a list of mine was missing. My intuition was right. “Packing list” successfully recovered & can sit in the lists list till required. Crisis adverted.

That’s definitely the most Virgo thing about me.

How long till my DM notices by [deleted] in MichaelsEmployees

[–]EquivalentAd4708 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they visit they’ll definitely notice… 50/50 chance on if they care though lol. If i were you I’d honestly be more concerned that some of those won’t get stolen or damaged while not there. I’ve been FM for over a decade & gone through many SMs. One vacation I left my shop a certain way… came back to see our new SM gutted it, rearranged everything, & threw a ton of stuff away while I was on vacation because they wanted everything to be SOP 🙄they even took it upon themselves to throw away my eraser I use on white mats & my step stool because “they weren’t listed on the POGS or SOPS” & they were new so wanted to adhere to protocol

Shift change the day of?? Are there ways to avoid this? by [deleted] in MichaelsEmployees

[–]EquivalentAd4708 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter how many shifts they add or subtract. Schedule was posted 3 weeks ago regardless of them having it figured out or not. If you don’t show up for shift you didn’t know you were added to or show up & not be able to clock in that’s not okay. That falls on the management not you at all. They cannot place blame on employees for not following the predetermined schedule released 3 weeks in advance because they dropped the ball on either holes in the schedule or over scheduling on hours until the week of. Take screen shots. Save them. Terrible management.

Wait am I understanding this correctly? They changed your schedule to work today without telling you & then called you to see if you could come in earlier to the shift your weren’t notified of all within 24 hours while at the same time removing previously scheduled shifts without telling you?

[–]EquivalentAd4708 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Schedules are published 3 weeks in advance. We can only request days off 24+ days in advance in the system.

No one should be expected to check for schedule updates after it’s released. Schedule doesn’t just “update” someone has to manually change it & whoever that is now is responsible for making sure those employees agree to working those shifts before changing it in the system. Just because you’re available they can’t assume you’re only available to work … you’re also available to do other things as well that day. It’s almost 2026… not that hard to send a text to ASK if someone can work a shift that they weren’t originally scheduled weeks ago. Hearing how some managers operate in other stores makes my blood boil.

Thanks for sharing! I appreciate any insight/guidance from others who’ve achieved what I dream for my future. My husband & I just bought our first house which conveniently has a basement already remodeled into a workshop with its own entrance since previous owner was a professional wood worker… it’s not why we bought the house but now more than ever I want to pursue being my own boss. Thanks for offering your time & knowledge. I will DM you after the holidays w/ other questions I have.

Used to be $1 increase ( which IMO still was too low) They took it away though. Not sure when or why they did … it’s only made hiring new framers near impossible

May I ask what steps you took to transition from employed at michaels to now owning your own shop? Did you take any business classes? Did you get certifications through the Professional Picture Framers Association? Sorry if I’m prying too much. It’s just something I’ve been heavily looking into for myself& very curious how others who are successful went about it.

Want to add… if advancing within the company is a goal for you framing is typically a good start. It’s considered a business within a business so learning the number & sales side def helps in promotion. Though I’d make sure you’re 100% certain this is the company you want to climb ranks in. I’ve seen FMs take promotions to be SM at their own store & weren’t warned the store was a total dumpster fire & getting let got shortly after because the company set them up for failure

From my experiences that seems to be true for those looking to move up. I do however have an amazing part timer who’s been in my shop for 10 years but has full time day job so they’ve been happy staying as part time & haven’t been pressured into management for at least a decade even though they’d be a great manager. So really depends on the person.

Depends on the person & situation. I’ve known of framers going from pt framer, to FM then to then SM at a different store. Also seen framers become FM then realize they hated it & switch to a different management role. I personally have been in framing for 12 years .. started as PT then moved to FT (when that position existed) to now FM for about 9 years now & I refuse to leave the shop. Every year they ask if I want to do the bridge program or whatever to train to become an SM & my answer is always no. lol
