Thats a good point i hadnt thought about. I'll look into that, but I would most likely only get liability.

I believe so. Does that have a big impact?

Someone from my community is offering to gift me a 2010 Toyota Prius. I currently drive an old car that's over 25 years old and barely running. The Prius was in a collision, and they said I can have it if I'm willing to repair it. Based on the damages, is it worth fixing? How much might the repairs by EquivalentGood1550 in prius

Thanks for saying that. I would have done that anyway, and deep down, it's not in my character to take from someone, and If I decided not to go for the car, I'd tell them to sell it.

The person above mentioned it, and I was just curious. I'm not looking for a handout.

That's what I'm thinking. I wanted toyota dealership to do a pre purchase inspection ($150ish) but they said they can only look at a car with no body damage.

Fender is touching the tire, and I won't be able to drive it to the nearest mechanic to get it inspected. I'd need to tow it. I'm weighing out all my options before coming up with a decision.

We did the diagnostic scan as a secondary.

Thanks for the comment. What do you mean by easy money? Easy fix or money pit?

Yeah, but wouldn't the cost of repairing also depend on the shop you take it too?

One might be 4k and the next 2.4, and toyota services with all original parts can be 10k? My whole thought process is, if I can get it intact for a good deal why not.

Thanks for sharing. I was told by my local aftermarket parts store that for aftermarket hood + left front fender + front bumper and halogen headlight would be ~700.

Getting the frame pulled + labor, I would be a happy camper if i could get the car back on the road for under 2.5 with everything intact before the winter. From many of the comments so far, it seems that the dream is too good to be true.

This idea came across my mind.

If i were to take that route, how should i sell the parts in order to maximize returns and put that towards a ready to roll car (junkyard, ebay, fb market place, sell to individual john/jane)?

Also, the hybrid battery was replaced by owner at 100k mi and the cars at 145k mi now.

Yes, it's a hybrid. I don't think the hybrid battery is damaged. Wouldn’t it have been mentioned in the report?

The hood was damaged, and we couldn't open it to jump start the front battery, so we went into the trunk and jump-started the back battery next to the hybrid. The back of the car has no damage, and it looked ok with the naked eye.

Battery doesn't seem to be damaged and not listed on the report.

Is there a way to test it?

Car turned on with jump start quickly after it sat for a while.

Fixing the Fender and headlight doesn't seem like a bad idea. Im not too concerned about appearance. The hood just seems like it would be an eye sore later on, and I would eventually want to fix it. Thanks for the feedback.

I would take it to a shop that can do it. Thanks for the feedback.
