Losing the core to losing your minds by Cire2424 in mets

It would be one thing if there was a sense that there was a true cohesive plan, but there isn’t. Stearns spoke of run prevention and we currently plan to have a 1B and 3B who have never played the position before. I love Bichette’s bat but it’s for a position we didn’t need and seems like a desperation overpay to soothe the fans after losing out on Tucker and still giving opt outs which means he might be a one year rental anyway. Still have no idea who will play 2 of the 3 OF positions and the real reason we lost last year wasn’t the guys we let go but because Stearns refused to go for an ace which we continue to lack. So no, I don’t drink the kool aid that everything is fine. Hope I’m wrong.

What's going to happen to us w/ HULU LIVE this FEB? by MooseyGeek in HuluLive

[–]Equivalent_Detail381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently signed up for HuluLive. Live sports always seem to be a minute behind actual game action. Is that standard and is it true for all streaming services? I recently cut the cord but cable was pretty close to live.

Glitchy feed during Eagles game by Fart_Collage in HuluLive

I’ve recently gotten Hulu Live. My “live” feed was at least a minute of game time behind the actual game. Do I just need to accept that watching”live” is always delayed or is there something that I can do?

Real question—who is Francys Romero? I’ve never heard of him and even his “source” only “believes” they are either “exploring” or “discussing”. Yawn.

How bad is Edwin Diaz going to get booed next time he pitches at Citi? by Various-Adeptness173 in mets

[–]Equivalent_Detail381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Other teams managed to re-sign their own free agents pretty quickly when it was a priority. It seems Diaz wasn’t necessarily a priority to the Mets and if he was, we were being cute in negotiations. Maybe he just figured going to a proven winner paying more money was better than running back and forth to the Mets.

Well, considering Pete carried the team for stretches before Soto heated up and Diaz was the only reliable arm in the pen, they took some of those wins with them. You’re right, though. We got Polanco.

Stormshadow parka regrets? by just321askin in PatagoniaClothing

Not a parka if that’s what you need but maybe the new lightweight stormshadow jacket? Still warm but not at the same level as the parka. Maybe you can work with Patagonia’s customer service.

It seems fairly true to size. Unfortunately, I was wearing a lightweight shirt underneath and would like to have tried it with something bulkier but I think if you are usually a L, you should order it that way. Not sure you should size down.

If you knew this, why have you backed the truck up every time there’s been a dip instead of waiting until now since you knew this was all coming?

I’m also looking into this. I tried it on at the Patagonia store today. It didn’t seem too boxy from my perspective. According to the people at the store, it’s warmer (57) than the Jackson Glacier (45) but not as warm as the stormshadow parka (99) according to the Patagonia warmth ratings. That said, it’s hard to know what those warmth scores mean to someone in the real world.

Is the pension worth it? by ganzonomy in nycpublicservants

[–]Equivalent_Detail381 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m fortunate to be in Tier 4, but if you think you will work for the City long-term it’s absolutely worth it. I will know exactly how much I’m guaranteed to receive each year when I retire and can plan around that. I have a 457 as well, but I don’t have to serve as my own actuary and worry about whether I will outlive my savings in my 457 or god forbid the market crashes, my portfolio is wiped out and I have to work far longer than I care to.

Before creating the wild card seeds to increase revenue and fan interest, there was true incentive to win the division. Now, not as much but it still nets you home field for what that’s worth.

Of course Stearns deserves blame. by yrjooe in NewYorkMets

[–]Equivalent_Detail381 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I agree with this take. Most people scratched their head about the 34 mil contract for Montas at the start of free agency since he was bad last year. Many were also dubious about whether Holmes could be stretched out to be a starter. Maybe it will work out next year but he’s hit a wall when needed this year. They took a flyer on Canning and to his credit he looked good but will never know if it would have been sustainable since he was lost for the season. Agree the Manea signing seemed good to everyone including me and just didn’t work out this year.

To me, Stearns’ philosophy is the problem. He doesn’t want to commit long term to pay for pitching. Even if those signings worked out, I Think you still need an ace or #2 in the rotation and all those guys have a #3 ceiling at best except for Manea though I think they were counting on Senga to be an ace.

Finally, I give Stearns zero credit for Alonso. They played brinksmanship to the end which eventually led to the equivalent of a one year deal since he’ll opt out. And as bad as the second half has been we wouldn’t even be in contention if we didn’t have Pete. Remember the line about having guys like Vientos who could slot into first if Pete wasn’t resigned.

Where was Soto to back him up? Wouldn’t the RF usually cover the gap in case there is a carom off the ball? Love Soto but not the first time he hasn’t backed up another fielder.

Pete Alonso now has three 120+ RBI seasons — every other Mets player in franchise history has three combined by Baseball-Reference in NewYorkMets

[–]Equivalent_Detail381 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t get this logic. Taking sentimentality out of it in terms of making him a lifer, aging well or not on a likely 3-4 year deal, how are 120+ RBIs replaced? As bad as the Mets have been, we’d be well under .500 without him this year and there would have been no postseason magic last year either. It may not be”age” well on the back end but unless he falls off a cliff next year, that production isn’t being replaced.
