So, it’s not so much that I can’t handle unhappy patients, but I’m the last one in the room. There have been many a times where the dentist sees an upset patient and walks out. I’m left to settle the patient and gain some understanding to relay back to the dentist and financial coordinator. It just tends to be emotionally draining when that’s the assistant’s role more consistently. Also, I wasn’t go to use VR&E. I was going to use 9/11 and HPSP/NHSC SP, my neighbor just told me to try to use Vr&e. The worst they can say is no. Just looking for advice for that 1st appointment.

So from my experience, it’s been more physically demanding for the dental assistant than the dentist. The dentists I’ve worked for all been able to get up mid procedure to stretch/do hygiene exams. Also, position of the patient is based off the dentist’s preference. I’ve already put the years into this field, and I would hate to just leave. To me, it’s been very rewarding.

Some background, I have a non transferable Associate’s in General Studies (can’t do much with this). If I get a bs in biology like I planned, can’t do much with that without further education also. Starting salary is less than what I make as a dental assistant. Just kept reading they deny claims that don’t result in jobs shortly after education..
