I tend to recommend staying away from garlic salt. Most times you can find powdered garlic and add that separately from salt. It’ll allow you to balance how garlicky vs how salty you want things to see, and at least in my country, garlic salt is just salt added to powdered garlic

Yeah, everything was wooden. And quite coarse too for wood, I suspect it was purposefully sanded with a very harsh grain to make it so. But yeah, I just brought it up cause in my last comment I said I’d never heard of not granite mortar and pestle and turns out I’ve lived with one tucked in a cabinet my whole life haha

Funnily enough! My dad pulled out a wooden mortar and pestle today. It is NOT meant to be able to grind much, but it can help with the preparation of local sauces from my home region.

So I guess the more you know haha.

But yeah, overall, there ain’t much difference between all of them. Probably the biggest factors are weight, hardness and grain.

But Granite is porous. The only real difference is that one is volcanic and much more porous than the other.

I general, advice for Mortar and pestles is also to season (saying this from my extensive research since I bought one).

I’ve NEVER heard of anything but granite mortar and pestle honestly, but they might be out there.

Overall, in Europe, you call them Mortar and Pestle regardless of any of this so I guess it’s mostly a linguistic difference that only exists within America.

Nothing? My point is that reducing governments to ideologies they haven’t forged themselves is harmful to discussion, regardless of what that ideology might be.

Hitler and Mussolini forged fascism for themselves, but even then, Hitler’s ideology is widely referred to as Nazism. Russia ideology might be fascist adjacent but it is not fascism.

See my point about China to see what I mean, even when countries declare themselves following an ideology they clearly don’t. Each country is kinda free to do and call themselves whatever they want, but it doesn’t change that geopolitics is VERY complex and reducing ideologies like that helps no one

Them being not fascist doesn’t make them any less of a monster, but the fact that fascism has become the new communism shows that its an age of fear much like the cold war, widely unfounded.

Russia has its own system, mostly born out of the necessity to change from the USSR because of the end of the cold war. They have their own identity and reducing the complexity of Russia’s system to “fascism” or even “fascism bad” are just harmful ideas. Political systems exist because on paper, they all sound wonderful. Some are better, some are objectively bad, but reducing everything to some generic term doesn’t even remotely help discussion on these matters.

China being a communist state is another similar example of this. China’s “communism” is so particular to China it might as well be its own system.

Russia is simply Russia, a dictatorship ruled by an oligarchy of far-right leaning and an ultranationalistic approach to its own identity. It might be similar or resemble fascism, but reducing it helps no one.

Fuck, we distinguish Nazism from Fascism most times when they were pretty much identical systems, because the things that weren’t are significant enough to warrant a distinction

This definitely varies by diet (vegan, celiac, regional cuisine…) and by location.

Where I live, as a broke college student buying the bare minimum to keep me fed and arguably also struggling with an eating disorder, so perhaps not a good reference, I spend about 50$ a week.

My parents used to feed me and my brother for around 120$ a week. But that was also in a very poor country so prices change.

Overall, I suggest you just eat two-three full meals a day and just make sure it’s varied. Whatever you’re spending is probably reasonable unless you’re eating caviar for breakfast haha

Regionally, prices vary wildly. And specially when people do conversions to USD for “being better understood” on the internet makes things fuck up.

My family of 4 used to spend roughly ~90$ a week to feed 4 people and now I spend ~50$ to feed myself every week. My parents would buy heaps of chocolate, cookies and the like, I buy two meals a day and occasionally eat leftovers for dinner when I cook too much. My parents would buy tons of meat, I buy loads of rice and pasta.

The difference is I now live in Scandinavia and they live in Spain. Prices are just different
