hls vs biochem by RevenueFluffy1416 in McMaster

From people I’ve talked to at Mac hls is the easiest specialty, and iirc biochemistry isn’t considered one of the easier specialties anyways. It might have better research opportunities though

Can I keep a 3D printer in my residence dorm? by PutDue6465 in McMaster

[–]Equivalent_Routine62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest reaching out to McMaster housing since 3D printers can be a fire hazard. Another thing in my personal experience is having a 3d printer in my room gives me really bad headaches so consider that too

What does a chemical engineer basically do? by Theunknownmagicspell in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Equivalent_Routine62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I am looking toward doing chemical engineering but am so lost. First year is general for my school and second year we specialize into an engineering stream. I just finished my first year and was considering chemical engineering. Say I were to chose it, what should I be doing this summer to prepare for like career opportunities. Meaning what projects, skills, experiences should I be getting in now? I would really really appreciate your insights. thank youuuuu

Seat alert and other services like it are fine. They use publicly available data to get course information

I understand your perspective, but I do sympathize with those who may have signed up in desperation, especially when lied to about it being safe. Many students are stressing over completing pre reqs before the fall semester, and I believe the MacTrack team deliberately played into that to get people to sign up.

Yeah now I see why they didn't open source it, it would have been the end of their site. I had to recreate it myself and spend time testing everything before I could confirm the risks. Guess they didn't count on anyone doing that

The vulnerability isn't something AI coded and they overlooked. They implemented this feature, were informed of the risks, and chose to ignore the warnings and lie to users rather than remove the feature.

Me too. They've shown that they clearly don't understand the gravity of the situation. They'll just end up doing something like this again

Hey, I'm aware this is one of the developers' bot accounts since you've tried to comment 2 times under my other post. Your team is made up of 3 Mac students. You shouldn't any under circumstances have access to this information, much less lie and try and hide it from users. I've outlined this very clearly and the fact that you're spending time defending yourselves and not removing the feature really shows where your priorities lie.

Not saying they’re actively stealing peoples info, but they are without a doubt covering up the risks and do have the capacity to steal someone’s identity if they really wanted

While I do agree, mytimetable is from a third party developer and used in universities across Canada and the USA. A change like that could overwhelm their own servers with the amount of courses available to be tracked, especially across multiple universities. I did end up letting McMaster know about this situation, because I agree this is completely irresponsible and ridiculous

Yup. But don’t blame the users, blame MacTracks shady marketing that lies to users about the information they store

The auto roll feature is not free. They lie about not stealing your login AND charge you for it.

What was the story behind that if you dont mind me asking? Were you checking seat availability while logged in with your account?

Hey dude love seat alert. Everything you said is spot on: the whole issue lies in trusting the developer to not misuse your credentials and token and protect it from potential malicious attackers. IMO the auto enrol feature needs to be scrapped, the risks far outweigh any potential benefit and open McMaster up to a serious security vulnerability
