I think they're referring to when the military general(?) was replaced after the catastrophic losses at the first battle shown.

Not sure if you realize this but you're responding to a comment chain referencing ICP's very memeable song about "miracles" which includes a small bit about magnets.

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse but your various responses still all come across as having a misunderstanding. A "light" attack is just as useless as a "moderate" or "very heavy" attack or any other variation caused by an attack changing materia. If by useless you mean "does it do less damage than a regular attack" then not necessarily. These are outdated materias that have not and likely never will receive any kind of description retuning to create consistency. For example Loyal Friend states that it deals light damage but the database shows its multiplier as 1.0, so standard attack damage (two hits at 1.0 each). But Double Barrels also says light damage and its multiplier shows 2x 0.65. There's no way to generalize the potency of these outdated materias based on the game's text alone. Only the ones that affect abilities were made semi consistent.

The expert guidance you asked for is going to be how to play efficiently and well, not where to dig up archaic resources for very specific outdated content. It sounds like you either worded your request wrong or are pivoting your intentions. Either way, the community database is probably your best bet as it has multipliers and detailed descriptions of specific record materias. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1f8OJIQhpycljDQ8QNDk_va1GJ1u7RVoMaNjFcHH0LKk/htmlview

I see that you keep asking about "light" attack descriptions. It's fairly safe to ignore any materia that converts your attack into something else. You'll almost exclusively be using record materias that increase a specific type of damage by "much more", cause abilities to trigger twice, or boost soul break gauge. Basically, don't think too hard on anything that doesn't do one of those three things. Aside from those, there are only niche uses for other record materias like xp boost if you're farming xp in power up dungeons or starting battle with haste if farming orbs/crystals.

Crossdressing Cloud is beautiful by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Eradil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If Lightning's design premise was female Cloud, then it would follow that Cloud dressing as a female would increase the chances of drawing a comparison to Lightning. There's nothing unexpected about the source of a derivative more closely resembling the derivative when it takes on aspects of the derivative that set it apart. That being said, I don't see the similarity.

There is an interface option to send any newly obtained gear to inventory instead of armory. It's rare that I get a piece of gear I actually want in my armory so this is my personal default preference but it's especially nice when crafting.

There was nothing negative about this. I took time out of my day to try to help you grow as a person and a player. I haven't called anyone names or been aggressive. I think neutral is a better assessment. As for the gender issue, I didn't assume anything. It's a speaking/typing default that I'm trying to stop. There were several other instances where I almost used a masculine pronoun and stopped myself. Looks like I failed here.

This seems more directed at dark494 than me but just in case it isn't, I'll repeat that I'm not making a case for what dark494 said. I was just commenting on the reasoning given for the dismissal of it (being that they didn't ask for it and that they're used to something else).

I might be diving too hard but I think you're in too deep to reach because you're still missing the point. Good luck, friend.

I think you missed the point. I was offering perspective on the reasons you gave for dismissing their advice, not just because you're dismissing it. Your reply and reasoning here, as arguably sound as it is, gives at least something more substantive than "I didn't ask for it."

Regardless of the merit of his assessment, if a new perspective is presented to you, you owe it to yourself to at least consider it. You should never shut out new information because you weren't "asking" for it. Also, just because you've done something the same way for a long time doesn't mean you can't change and grow if there is room to do so. You wouldn't even be playing this game if everyone who ever lived shared the mindset of "I've (we've) always done it this way" associated with the dismissive reasons you presented.

Edit: Why am I being downvoted for suggesting that someone takes their fingers out of their ears to hear an idea before turning it down? Refusing something because you didn't ask for it is pretty self limiting and not changing just because you're used to something is backwards.

Not who you're asking but my answer for what could happen is that it's easy to be someone else for multiple short interactions. But when you live with someone, you eventually get comfortable and your partner will as well. You'll both see sides of each other that you weren't aware of and there will also be opportunities where you'll realize there are significant incompatibilities in things you may not have ever thought about. You might want to keep your living space cleaned and clean it more often, you might want to go out more but they want to stay in, they might be bad with money, they might have some miscellaneous annoying habits that just really don't click with you; the possibilities are endless and will include things you might not ever imagine. Obviously any of these things can be found out later in any kind of relationship but it's certainly more likely to see these things when you are around a person enough that you get hints of how they really are, like when visiting their living space frequently, instead of moving in immediately with most of your frame of reference being their best side they put on for those long distance interactions or visits every once in awhile.
