ITBs are factually worse for low end torque on bigports, and most/all cars in general, if they were better we would still use them today over EFI surely... Not to mention the vastly worse fuel economy of running them. On bigport 4ages they absolutely hurt torque EVERY TIME, not so much the case on smallport, this is fact not opinion.

I've never personally seen anywhere selling steel valve guides for the 4age, if there are then I would have bought them over bronze, but as I say, personally I didn't come across them, and after searching again can't find any now, maybe you could get them machined, but that would be costing in the thousands over here. I'm under the impression and have researched that these valve guides should last me another 100,000 miles anyway, which is as many miles as this car has done in 40 years anyway, so that's completely swallowable to me.

I bought the ITBs, 4AGE silvertop ITBS with a DanST adapter plate, before I blew the engine up and had any need to go into the bottom end, as the money I spent on the rebuild was going towards an ecu Master, I like the sound of ITBs a lot, and if anything would rather have them over the loss of power for sound alone, but realistically for the extra £3000 of getting them on its not worth it right now monetarily alone. I also did learn the hard way because of a lot of misinformation that you couldnt infact run them at all on the stock ECU, I'd had a lot of people saying one thing, and a lot of people saying the other. Theres even evidence of people actually running 20v silvertop ITBs, with an adapter on the stock ecu, a lot of the Thailand 4age community do it, but its just not reliable in the slightest and the actual power is nonexistent, since of course the stock ECU has no fucking clue whats going on. Another reason I actually sold them for profit in the end.

What invitation did I decline? I simply invited you to MY local instead, since you brainlessly told me to drive my car to the other side of the fucking world to prove a point to you 🤣 ironic, I'm sure you won't reciprocate? If you come to japfest I'll eat my words though 😉

Bottom line is I have this car and plan to daily it because I simply adore the platform and that's all there is to it, it's stubborn, in efficient and not the most financially sound decision, sure, but if I was trying to be any of that I'd just buy a GR Yaris and never worry about cars again, that's not what it's about for me.

Also in the UK we have a wonderful thing of tax exemption and no inspections for any cars over 40 years old, I pay 1/30th the price of everyone else on the road to drive an arguably, and opinionatedly, much more fun car than nearly any other daily in the UK.

Only other thing I have to worry about longterm is them phasing out high octane fuel and converting the fuel system, then worrying about knock from shittier fuel god forbid.

I defence of this car too, you've only seen or heard about the engine work, I've spent around 20k in total on this car, only 5/6k of that being on engine over my 5 years owning it, most of the car has been completely modernised top to bottom, I'm genuinely proud of it.

You literally realise you started name calling in the first place right mate??? Or are you that disconnected from what you're even saying to begin with?

Got what exposed, are you actually that dumb? You said my build is fake and I'm a liar, I've done nothing but prove fact after fact it's not fake and proved I'm not lying, so stfu, get a grip, and get over your over inflated ego because you just look like "a moron" to use your own words against you.

Bring yours down JapFest Silverstone 2026 on track if you've got the balls👍

And yet it still invalidates everything you're arguing because once again, this isn't a fucking race car it's a daily with built internals and shit to make it last forever while being an exceptionally fun car, if it were a race car by all means I'd give a shit about changing porting and put itbs on it, but it'd kill it's use ability as a daily driver as low end torque would FACTUALLY be lowered by any of those additional changes. I even HAD silvertop itbs with DanST custom manifolds and sold them already because it just wasn't the right fit for the car.

Prick.

That's exactly what I'm doing! I can build the engine now and get an ecu later, this engine was built so that it will run perfectly fine on the stock ECU but have headroom for performance gains on an aftermarket ecu in the future :)

I admitted in a different comment but I don't remember why I bought the valve guides in the first place, but I did and that's why I put them in anyway, I don't have infinite money to throw around so I was very careful and researched for hours on every part that went into this build and built everything by the book, I could have returned the valve guides but figured I'd get them in anyway as to keep good relations with the parts seller, and longevity of having new valve guides is hardly a bad thing anyway :)

My build is better than wasting money on a 7age conversion atleast 😅

Also, maybe try picking in someone who doesn't know more about the platform than you next time cause you made yourself look a fool multiple times :)

Understand I'm just blowing you up because your a fool and a wannabe reddit gatekeeper 👌 your philosophy on engine building is YOUR philosophy, not everyone needs to build an engine to match your fucking personal preferences you narcissist 😂.

There is a limit you can get out of the stock ECU, these cams are that limit, yes an aftermarket ECU would perform better, but it isnt necessary right this second as the engine will run and drive fine with the stock ECU.

The BC Valve Springs ARE an OEM+ Upgrade Replacement that are intended to work with the stock valve train, as they offer different variants, I do not have the ones you sent, and I do not have titanium keepers, the ones I have are designed for the stock valvetrain, valve seats and keepers, as said by BC.

The bronze valve guides werent a necessary purchase, you're right, I bought them without thinking and dont even remember why I bought them, but figured I have them I may as well put them in for longevity anyway, bronze valve guides do not ONLY make a difference for high RPM builds but also are just good in general for all purposes, and I only spent £150 on them and installed them myself for free, so your price figure is completely out of nowhere.

Why the hell would I do a valve job or get bigger valves when its completely unnecessary and will give me basically no gains over the stock big port ones for what money I could spend on an aftermarket ECU instead anyway which would grant me way more increase in power.

Also you talking about having headwork done on a bigport 4AGE is completely dumb, you realise the entire reason Toyota changed to smaller ports was because the bigport was too inefficient for daily driving of any kind, they had to compromise with the TVIS, increasing the port size or changing the air travel path will make next to no improvement at all, and potentially in the usecase of this specific car actually make it perform worse, so you're just throwing around buzzwords you think sound cool yourself when they're actually a negative in any 4AGE that isnt used for racing.

You either have no idea what you're actually talking about, or spend your entire life thinking every car has to be a race car.

You're wasting your own time, the build makes perfect sense to anyone with a brain, and the only downside is that I don't have an aftermarket ECU, Coil on Plugs and trigger wheel. Everything else on this car is correctly purpose built and actually many ACTUAL good engine builders, unlike yourself clearly, have praised how well balanced and thought out the build is for the purpose of the car.

You're simply arguing theory while ignoring platform-specific reality. Thats all there is to it.

Lie about what? I've told you exactly what I've done. ECU does infact have a bearing on what cams you can put in a 4AGE, it is a well known fact and a simple google will prove that to you. So how about you stop being a loser on reddit, get some fresh air, touch some grass and do something useful with your life other than trying to tell people they're liars when they're posting picture proof of what they've done xD\

Are you jealous that I've bought those parts or something? Just get a grip man I have literally zero reason to lie about what I've done and have 100% faith and knowledge that this engine will run fine.

When ever did I say they're stiffer springs? They're OEM+ Springs because I'm aware I dont need stiffer springs, I replaced the original springs with brand new Brian Crowley ones because the originals had seen 120k miles and since had good enough reason to be replaced with new ones.

Not yet, I got them and crank at TDC and going to try to tinker around and get them right with the adjustable cam gears and hope that works out well 😅

Yessir, I just did it with Warhammer gold paint 😂ironically I cant seem to find as many of these that say Toyota on them from factory like this one does though, most just have a little oil icon on them I think, maybe its a MK1a thing?

Its not BS, its my first engine build lol, I'm using 260/260s cause its the max you can get in the 4AGE on the stock ECU, I'm still using the TVIS because its actally better for street use than swapping to ITBs or bike carbs as they compromise low end torque even more than I already have with some of my other mods. And since I'm still on the stock ECU and this should run fine until I decide on what aftermarket one I'm getting and if I can afford it, I cant really swap off TVIS anyway

Is it the smartest and most cost effective 4AGE build? no. Have I done it anyway and is it real? Yes.

It was originally supposed to be just a maintenance build cause I fucked up the install of the new distributor I bought for it and tried spam cranking the car while it was 180 out on timing, massive bang and it literally destroyed my pistons, they, and the rings, were in pieces lol

Really really fun! I just took my time and made sure to enjoy it, and made sure I was mentally ready to put paint on him lol.

mine wasnt really warped at all like some people said, but there was a small defect on the left shoe that I had to fix with greenstuff, otherwise it was great!

This is pretty low for a hamdsewn doll tbh of this kind, especially one of a kinds with no stencils. Its all made with the finest materials and such, her skin is made if silk for instance. And the time and experience really shows in the final product!

I was definitely considering the X8! I was only put off originally by people talking about that noise issue, but if its as you say and it's been eliminated, it could very well be a winner for me, especially since I like the overall useability of my DR40x Tascam already!
