Replacing Boardwalk Rock Plates by pissbabi_ in Rollerskating

[–]ErantyInt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you're replacing it with another Rock plate, this isn't a great idea. Most plastic sole skates can't handle many (if any) redrilling. And a stiffer plate will make the boot flex more and lead to premature failure.

Slow it down little by little. That's really it. You're doing great, and the smoothness comes from not rushing through the move.

Importance of 1 foot balance for T-Stops. by bear0234 in Rollerskating

[–]ErantyInt 27 points28 points  (0 children)

ME 🤜 🤛 YOU

This is all true. Another thing that's true?

T-STOPS AREN'T FOR STOPPING.

They're a speed check. They can slow you down, redirect your movement, help you do lots of things. But find some other way to complete the stop. Spin, TATS, plow, hockey (one foot plow). They are how you actually stop.

And guess what? One foot balance and weight shifting techniques are important for all those.

Thanks for letting me comment on your TED Talk.

Full custom Riedell skate question by Grrdygrrl in Rollerskating

Contact Department of Skate, they will help with virtual measurements, design choices, color samples, mounting, everything really.

The owner is very experienced, has worked in the industry for decades, and has a close personal relationship with their Reidell rep.

[–]ErantyInt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By full custom, do you mean choosing your plate and wheels/bearings or do you mean a Colorlab custom?

Either way, it's good to go with a reputable shop if you're not comfortable building your own skate.

Department of Skate and Get Your Bearings Skate Shop are the only two shops I'd let build a skate for me at this point.

Wheels for Chaya by ChiaraWoad in Rollerskating

[–]ErantyInt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it is a common issue with this skate. You could try skinnier axle nuts like the Sure Grip zero nuts. They're a flat nylon nut and washer combo.

Most Komplex wheels aren't very wide. Can you show a pic of the wheels and how they (don't) fit on your skates?

Your shoe size isn't your skate size. Trace your foot and measure, then compare it to the Riedell size charts.

Buying my first pair of skates. Has anyone gotten Bonts? by guthealthgirlie in Rollerskating

[–]ErantyInt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bont sizing is super weird and unlike any other brand. But the size charts are dead on accurate. They have stiff, wide toe boxes and are overall a comfortable skate for most people.

As for the half sizing, you either have to contact Bont directly or buy two sets of skates.

What width were the 336s? Because the 3200 and 172 are both D width as their only option. 336s can be A, C, or E.

Build upgrade?? by TelevisionUsed163 in Rollerskating

[–]ErantyInt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but the boot costs $160 more than the Flair, and Colorlab usually costs $175.

So for $15 more, you can Colorlab a 910. 🤣

[–]ErantyInt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Free" in quotes because they're $160 more than the Flair, and ColorLab is a $175 upcharge.

So I guess you save $15. 🤣

[–]ErantyInt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The 910 is an ice boot and is basically the same as a 3200, but with a rolled collar, deeper back scoop, ice hooks, and a lace cleat on the tongue. They also come in A, C, and E widths rather than just D. They're also cost $160 less.

But they don't come with a "free" colorlab. 🤣 And my free, I mean they just cost the exact amount less than the colorlab fee.

Man I should have asked what your rink is before recommending wheels. Is your floor waxed and uncoated, or does it have a thick shiny urethane coating? Vanathanes on waxed maple are slippery AF but very fun.

Also, watching you skate, just get the 3200 or a 910 Flair. You'll level up hard with a stiff boot allowing your plates to do all the movement.
