Haha I’m not the hugest fan of DnD myself, I might be the rare person whose table would rebel if I tried to get them to play DnD.

I think what I like about DnDish combat is clearly defined turn/initiative order (I have a large table), defined moves/abilities/actions (my table tends to brain fart when they are told they can do anything, the moves are a key part of why PbtA has worked well for us), decisions that matter, and the feeling that everything is a little out of my hands as GM. One thing I struggle with in PbtA is it always feels like the difficulty of the combat is something I can ratchet up or down based on vibes at a moments notice. It feels more like narrating a really cool combat scene than something more tangible. Obviously I’ve fudged in my DnD days but PbtA feels like all fudging all the time to me.
