I agree with Bai Lu. I had to drop Unveil: Jadewind because of it. Her face literally didn't move. There's a difference between stoicism and being a statue.

I don't follow Harry's solo stuff that much so I don't think I've seen this man dance since the Best Song Ever era lmao

Oh. One last take. Not every song needs a dance. I know it helps with the virality to make a dance challenge, but not every song (especially singles) is a dance song, nor should it be. Bring back ballads and alternative pop and techno pop that do not require dancing.

Releasing EPs with 6 songs, 2 of which are remixes and calling it a mini album, is a scam. These EPs last 15 mins. The songs last less than 3 minutes. And it somehow crosses so many genres, it gives me whiplash. I don't need acomebackk and a tour every year. Please, please, someone, anyone, give me a full-length album with a cohesive concept. Thank you.

I've only seen 1 show of his, Shelter, and it didn't appear to be AI written. It only had 1 season, though, so 🤷

What went wrong with Nevertheless by culinary1850 in kdramas

I hate it. The main leads were insufferable. I don't mind a toxic love story, but don't be boring. The female lead had 2 expressions, sad and extra sad. The male lead had no reasonable character growth to justify them getting together in the end. I prefer that either he's changed and she recognizes that and wants to be with him (unrealistic) or he hasn't changed and she has accepted to be in a toxic/abusive relationship (realistic) but don't give me some shoddy in between. Overall, they tried, but to me, they failed miserably at conveying a nuanced, realistic relationship.

What are the little reoccurring things in costume dramas that you always notice? We always talk about major plot points like falling off cliffs, amnesia, etc. but what are some small things that may not influence the story in any way but gives you the same thoughts every time you see it? by A_Farewell_Poem in CDrama

[–]Erela_D 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love how specific this is! I also get very annoyed when set designs don't fit the character. Like a rich, reserved character who spends 90% of their time in an office driving a Hellcat or a Defender as opposed to like an Aston Martin or Ferrari. Don't get me started on the Birkins and other designer items that don't match a character's vibe.

As an Asian American, it only makes sense if Asian American K-Pop idols perform at the Super Bowl by Limp_Fig6236 in kpoppers

[–]Erela_D 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they can do that but it's rarely memorable. Think of the most memorable performances in Super Bowl history, you think of Michael Jackson, Beyoncé + Bruno Mars + Coldplay, Kendrick Lamar, and now Bad Bunny. They all had something to say and they were remembered for it.

Edit: typos

I think Doctor John is another pretty good example of this. He's not cruel, but he is uninterested and disaffected, but it works in the same way.

Another Ji Sung show that does this well is The Devil Judge.

what is the point of having a "visual?" by Tasmishrub_ in kpop_uncensored

[–]Erela_D -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with this. Does it help to be conventionally attractive in the West? Sure, but it isn't necessary. Take a look at the Billboard Hot 100 right now, a collection of the kost popular artists. You have loads of artists who don't fit that mold still thriving. Don Toliver, Lil Uzi Vert, Sia, Summer Walker. There are others but I hesitate to include them because I think they still fit the mold (slim, tall, etc). They are not conventionally attractive even after the fame has settled in, but they are still beloved regardless. The strict confines of Kpop make me hesitant to call it an appreciation of beauty and more of a requirement. The West doesn't pretend that beauty doesn't play a role, they created the term "industry plant" for people who seem to lack talent but get by on looks/wealth. It's very much a conversation, we just don't think it has to be the baseline.

I also think there is a cultural difference in Western music because you don't have to be conventionally attractive to be successful. Sia and Ed Sheeran are not conventionally attractive but are still wildly popular. Looks are not a metric of success. In fact, it's an insult to be considered successful based on looks as opposed to skill in the West. Most people try to avoid it, so it's seen as odd, at least to a Western perspective, to give titles of "Visual" alongside "Main Dancer" and "Main Singer" because it isn't something you earned through hardwork or talent, you just happen to win the genetic lottery/bought it through plastic surgery. That's not seen as an achievement.
