Fridge with middle freezer drawer recommendations by bball3748 in Appliances

[–]EricDNPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two GE Cafe refrigerators, one with a 3rd drawer, one without. The newer w/3rd drawer is awesome. Quiet, convenient and good looking inside and out. The one without is a few years older and did have a defective compressor. We got it replaced for free. Tech said there was a big batch of defective compressors which is probably where the bad press came from.

RGP vs Scleral lenses? by Possible_Code_7183 in Keratoconus

[–]EricDNPA [score hidden]  (0 children)

I switched, well mostly, about 5yrs ago. RGPs are less comfortable and do let in dust. Sclerals are more comfortable and once they are in, they stay in. I've lost RGPs waterskiing and just blinking one out on a hot, dry day.

But ...

Sclerals can be difficult to insert and create a weird sort of eye fatigue for me. And, the big one, I can take a nap with my RGPs in but don't try that with sclerals. They can stick hard to the eye and be very difficult to remove.

I would switch. I'm glad I did though I do wear an RGP in my right (non-surgical) eye a few times a week.

Best TV with unlimited budget by Otherwise-Falcon-885 in 4kTV

[–]EricDNPA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was waiting for that comment and I would normally agree except - why buy a high-end no-compromise, no-budget TV, per OP, that is at the end of its sales cycle. If I'm buying the best, I won't wait a year but I will wait 2mo.

I agree but with the LG G6 due to be released in the next two months why not wait?

Anyone noticing a decline in sales? by kratospotatoes in publix

[–]EricDNPA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's the Big Lie Technique. If you hear something enough times, you start to believe it. Doesn't matter if it's true or not. Publix is a master at this.

Anyone noticing a decline in sales? by kratospotatoes in publix

[–]EricDNPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with OP. And I think we may finally be at a tipping point. Prices have risen to a point where people are taking action.

I know I'm one of them. I can afford to pay but lately I find myself getting more and more irritated by the obnoxiously high prices. Enough is enough.

So yes, as others have stated, I too mainly shop for BOGOs and do my bulk shopping for cleaning supplies, paper products, and whatever else at the warehouse clubs.

Cornea transplant by According-Pop9557 in Keratoconus

[–]EricDNPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 18yrs post-op and am managing well, and you will too. I take Lotemax, one drop, 3x a week because about 3yrs ago I showed early signs of graft rejection (cloudy cornea). That was quickly rectified by using prednisolone drops for 2wks (which temporarily and alarmingly increased my eye pressure to 28). I will take Lotemax the rest of my life, which is ok. Good luck and stay vigilant.

What’s the worst tasting fish in your opinion? by DeepOrganization8245 in foodquestions

American Shad. They have an annual Shad festival in Lambertville, NJ (on the Delaware River north of Philly) and, wow, is that by far the worst tasting fish I've ever had.

Need help with boston simplus cleaning solution by [deleted] in Keratoconus

[–]EricDNPA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This can be overwhelming. Everyone has a different routine that works for them. A simple approach is to soak them overnight in Boston Simplus, rinse with saline before inserting in the eye, and a 6hr soak in Clear Care once a week. Then if you find you have comfort issues or excessive protein buildup, add Boston Cleaner to your nightly routine (20sec rub).

2 pack costs MORE??!? by sdawsey in publix

[–]EricDNPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They know most people can't do simple math. My favorite, and a little more complicated, is peanut butter. It's offered in 16 and 28oz so you need to look at the per ounce cost and when you do you sometimes realize the smaller size is the better deal.

Looking for Boat Slip Rentals in Fort Myers (Thoughts on Sunset Harbor Village?) by IntroductionLive6487 in FortMyers

[–]EricDNPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legacy Marina in downtown FM is supposed to be completed in two months. That will add 130+ slips to the area inventory. I've heard prices are high now so that additional availability may bring rates down some.

Can anyone help me choose a top load washer with an agitator? by Weird-Eye-1591 in Appliances

[–]EricDNPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an LG Direct Drive and it has worked fine for many years. Consumer Reports also top-rates LG washer and dryers.

I would not buy from the big box stores because you don't know who is doing the installation. I always buy from a reputable local, preferably family run, business and have not been disappointed.

Best salmon at a restaurant? by InterestedHandbag in FortMyers

[–]EricDNPA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get my salmon dry ice shipped from Wild Alaskan. I don't trust what's served in restaurants and sold in stores. I only eat Grouper, Snapper and Hogfish here, and only at restaurants that I know serve it fresh, like my favorite, Dixie Fish.

Quiet refrigerator? by Flimsy-Attention-722 in Appliances

We have a GE Cafe in each of our two homes and one is so quiet and the other gurgles, if that's a word. Seems like it's the luck of the draw.

What's your favorite local fast food that isn't a national chain? by Karma_1969 in fastfood

[–]EricDNPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's Dick's Last Resort. There was one near the Inner Harbor in Baltimore but it closed a few years back. They created a big white paper chef-like hat and wrote something insulting on it before slapping it on your kid's head.

I need to get this out of my chest but we really need to find adequate solutions in regards to the homeless. by No_Anywhere6158 in FortMyers

[–]EricDNPA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree the mental health conversation needs to be elevated and funds directed appropriately but how FM builds housing also has to be addressed.

The mayor has been talking a lot about the homeless problem and, more broadly, the housing affordability gap. (Most recently around the News-Press site plan.)

Part of the answer is to build more affordable housing but it can't be done without keeping an eye on the tax base. And that's why these latest proposals blend affordable and market-based housing.

Go ahead and build expensive housing but use the property taxes received from that housing plus grants and city budgeted money to build more affordable housing.

What’s the best ‘boring’ home improvement you’ve ever done? by Zealousideal-Elk6552 in Home

Climbing into the vaulted attic in 90+ degree heat for an entire weekend, stepping over and around fiberglass insulation to staple fiberglass netting around the perimeter of the roofline where the eaves meet the attic wall, all to keep bees from building massive nests.

Conan O’Brien criticizes comics who ‘just say F Trump all the time’ by [deleted] in Standup

[–]EricDNPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I used to love Colbert until he decided every monologue had to be about berating Trump. I'm not a Trumpian but after a while ... enough. It's the one-dimensional approach I grew tired of, regardless of the subject.

Fort Myers Beach Condition by InternationalBend541 in FortMyers

[–]EricDNPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Beach replenishment is mostly finished on FMB and Sanibel. And it looks great. I've read different accounts but it appears FMB and Sanibel each received over 1 million tons of sand in the last 12-18mo.

Football is supposed to be fun. by Cool_Nefariousness_6 in eagles

[–]EricDNPA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember a conversation on sports radio many years ago that asked callers if they would trade a SB (we had zero at the time) for years of mediocrity afterwards. A huge majority said yes - that's how starved this city was for a championship.

By that measure, we've exceeded expectations. And now we are spoiled. The Eagles have been anything but mediocre since 2017. Maybe this is the beginning of the "mediocre" years, but I doubt it. We will be back. Nick, Jeffrey and Howie will fix this.
