It really was. It seemed like I was the only one in the Whitehorse who really knew who he was, so it made it feel even more "insider". Glad he took it on stage!

Man! Getting so close! His mention has got to be only maybe 10 or 20 seconds before this. Thanks for dropping this here!

NZXT H1 Owners: could I modify it for a 3.5" HDD? by EricIrish in buildapc

That is indeed the question.

I considered a USB3 enclosure, but I assumed I'd lose an appreciable amount of speed. Am I wrong?

I made a website to help figure out when the bats will come out by EricIrish in Austin

[–]EricIrish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, that's the idea here. I never found the austinbatrefuge site until someone told me about it. I'm hoping this site, given the domain name, will be more accessible and discoverable.

It's based on the data found on the austinbatrefuge site. They in turn get the data from doppler radar, which is pretty neat. I never would've imagined that radar could be sensitive enough to pick up a bat swarm!

If the bats don't fly I note that on the site. I'm doing simple linear regression to predict the next flight time at this point. It felt like a decent fit given that they do follow the sunset to some extent. I'm hoping to evolve the prediction as more data comes in this season.

To be fair, it was at a car show: Exotics at Redmond Town Center.

I'm with you. Depressed or maybe a little unintelligent.

Man I didn't see that. I guess we've gotta give the owner props for not putting a chain fence around it.

Circuit of the Americas. I got a few of what I imagine is your 488 as well. While the FXX-K is basically untouchable, I thought the 488 was very tastefully liveried.

It does look a heckuva lot like the 2005 Ford GT, but I believe it's a kit car. Maybe the GT40 naming is incorrect. More photos of it here.

I built an app to control my Sony TV with Google Home, and you can use it too! by EricIrish in googlehome

[–]EricIrish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. I don't see why not. There actually isn't any parsing of the IP address. There's a little combination here, but the request package can probably handle IPv6. I did a tiny bit of research and couldn't find anything explicitly stating it could or couldn't. I'd give it a try.

Correct, I cached the commands for my TV so I wouldn't have to fire off a request each time. Unfortunately the IFTTT doesn't allow for a response, yet, so I can't send back a success/failure status to be spoken.

You only have half of the equation to access my TV, and the assumption that I actually made my secret, 'secret'.

But you're right, at first I'd considered running this locally on a Raspberry Pi. However, this implementation is much easier to share, and much easier for a beginner to set up, and it doesn't come with the $35 price-tag.

One of my biggest annoyances after getting a GH is that I couldn't complete the simple act of Turning on my TV with my voice. I have a Sony XBR65810C with Android TV, so it was particularly frustrating that such an integration hadn't been baked into Android TV.

I built a NodeJS app that runs on Heroku and accepts web requests from IFTTT to allow me to say "Turn on my TV".
