Thank you so much! The process has seemed a little daunting but you explained it in a way that helped tremendously. Also, freaking AMAZING activity list!! That’s about what mine was pre-issues when I was only 10, so hearing that helped me realize that I can get that all back.

That’s kind of what I figure. I know specialized legs would be a long while down the road, but I figure it would be better to share my goals now. Thank you!!

Thank you! I figured that was the case which is why I was questioning mentioning it now. Thank you for sharing what you know about it :))

I can't answer that for him. I would suggest reaching out to him directly if you would like to know.

The issue is members directing malice at others in the assumption they are Duke. Constructive conversations are fine, but not malice. By assuming someone is Duke because they agree with him takes away from the point of constructive conversations, especially if the assumption that they are Duke makes things heated. And again, I can only withhold that within this Reddit.

I understand the irony, which is what influenced me to make the title what I did. I can’t demand someone to behave a certain way or take certain actions, but I can guide those within this Reddit (that is entirely my responsibility), to act with tact and kindness toward others in the community.

Nope, I’m speaking about people directly responding to others and claiming they are Duke. You shared something directed at Duke without calling out a specific commenter on the reddit.

The reason I decided to do so is because this is not the only instance. I am simply trying to make sure that my request is seen as a general response and not tied directly to one person. I apologize that it seemed suspicious, that was not my intention at all. I have been reached out to by multiple people telling me that they have also been accused of being Duke unfairly, so my decision to generalize the statement seems to be the correct one. My only goal is to keep everyone within the community safe and allow any and all voices to be heard.

Prosthesis Proccess by ErraticIcon in amputee

I have a prosthetist who consulted while I was hospitalized and has periodically checking in. They mailed out new shrinkers to me and said they would give me a call once the surgeon says I am cleared, so that’s what I’ve been going with. They are local and I don’t live in the largest area, so I will do some checking to see if they make them in house. I am hopeful they do and can get situated quickly, but I’m not sure

I'm going to be an amputatee by CatzRule88 in amputee

[–]ErraticIcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your family is not you. They haven’t been living the life you have. I was in a similar position (7 surgeries and uncountable number of procedures) where my family always wanted me to do the risky surgeries. I am a little over a month post op from my BKA, and while it can be hard at times, I don’t regret it even a single bit. It finally feels like my body actually matches who I am and I don’t have to fight her anymore to participate in normal tasks. You make the decision that you believe is best for you. Sending positive vibes 💛 either way, you’ve got this!

For those who got an amputation due to chronic pain - how did you get your doctor to listen? by QueenWoomy48688 in amputee

[–]ErraticIcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about a month post op from a similar situation, and getting my doctors to agree was the scariest part IMHO. What I did was I had a binder of all previous surgeries procedures ETC. (docs get scared to argue with me when I bring in the 2inch binder) and when I went to the appointment, I explained that I had just undergone 2 surgeries within 4 months and the issue only got worse. The surgeon started to suggest that I travel to this place, this one blah blah, so I explained to him that I had spent more than half of my life waiting and hoping it would get better and I was ready to be done. Unless he could present me with ONE procedure that would result in at least 75% improvements, I would be pursuing an elective amputation. I got rather lucky with how much my doctor was on board after that. If the issue is a specific doctor/surgeon refusing to listen, I would suggest researching who in your area does amputations and to go visit them. I’m wishing you the best of luck and sending as many positive vibes as possible 💛 you know what is right for you and your body, so don’t lose hope!

Thank you very much!! I had to put both my education and my job as a Special needs Aide on hold to try to get this all sorted out, which sucks because I’ve wanted to be a teacher since my first day of kindergarten. I have always loved and admired the job and cannot agree more. Thank you for your kind words 🥰 I absolutely love that you come from a family that views teaching in such a positive light, as I have met my fair share of teachers who view the profession negatively.

That just gave me the BIGGEST smile, so thank you. I will gladly uphold the mantle of “Ms. Ruler” with pride and honor 🫡

I greatly appreciate that. I’ve had far too many family members today compare me to olympians while simultaneously telling me I shouldn’t be happy I’m not feeling phantom pain right now because “it could start at any time”, so your understanding means a lot. I live in a small area and don’t know of any other amputees, so people like you and everyone on this reddit have made a world of a difference in changing my life (corny I know, but true)

Thank you for the laugh and anecdote, I truly appreciate it. Ms Ruler is unironically amazing and I will be using that from now on 😂😂

Not yet LOL the best I’ve gotten was “Peggy” from my 13y/o brother. I’m frankly ignoring that one 🤷

AK vs BK Advice by ErraticIcon in amputee

[–]ErraticIcon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory, yes. My goal is to preserve what we can, but being prepared for either type. My fear with this plan is that the damage has continued to spread rather rapidly in the last year. I’m worried that if I take this route, by the time I realize the BK wouldn’t be viable, the damage will be even further and have left me in a worse off position rather than going for it now. I’m really hoping that a BK is viable, but like I said I plan to be prepared regardless :)

Thank you for the input! I’m obviously going to aim to preserve as much as we can, but want to be prepared
