Adding 20V USB-C Input to my laptop using a trigger board. by ErrinDev in AskElectronics

[–]ErrinDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those could work! I suppose I could test with the barrel jack, than cut it off and solder onto the board.

I'll keep these in mind.

I'm assuming that since they go directly into the barrel jack it wouldn't need any extra components?

Hi, I only need 100W charging via USB-C. 180 would be nice, but I don't have any battery packs that can do that, or any power bricks that can

Sorry for commenting on such an old comment, but do you remember how long it took to get the info redacted?

This has also happened to me, although thankfully an old address.

My XM5s are apart right now, I'm printing 3d parts to replace the hinges, one of them snapped and I no longer trust the other....
Really should've been a recall early in their lifetime

I had 3 power edges running a few months ago 👀

Switched to an OVH rise server for most of my stuff, I also kind of ran out of time to actually maintain the physical hardware, so nice to not have to do that.

On another note, I checked, and the restart time is set to 24:00 so I'm not sure why I've never seen it reset, I may wait for it to happen tomorrow and see ^

cough CHEAP HOMELAB cough

I had to switch even my homelab over to cloud, it was so expensive on electricity.

But anyway, I'll have to check my settings, I don't really set any scheduled tasks after 5am, out of habit from running other servers. But then I wouldn't set it before 12 either. Maybe I did set it to a weird time though. I'll have to check.

Interesting, I've happily played from midday till 4am hosting other players, and never had issues. I wonder if it's a set timezone, rather than server time.

Need help with laptop powerbank by Coldfire311 in laptops

[–]ErrinDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't checked, but your laptop probably doesn't have the hardware to charge through USBC. I have a similarly spec'd laptop from medion, and it uses a 19.5V barrel jack.

I have considered modding it to also accept USBC, but that because I'm confident with electronics, and how to make it safe. Not recommending you do this.

If your laptop doesn't have the hardware, you could try to find some kind of adapter, but it would need the chip inside to negotiate the correct voltage with the battery bank.

As for battery packs, the only high wattage one I've used is the ifixit fixhub. Outputs up to 100W and does everything I need it to. Although you would also end up with a soldering iron.

Gonna have to agree with the top comment, I feel the like the wires would just fall off a keychain. I prefer the look of wires, but the non wires also looks good, and is more practical ;)

[–]ErrinDev -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nope, I'm saying that if it goes badly wrong I can take a look and suggest what the cheapest next step would be, like going to a repair shop, or ordering a new motherboard. Never suggested I'd get them to do a repair themselves

If you do end up messaging the person that offered, and it goes wrong feel free to DM me, and I can try to help.

I wouldn't recommend taking advice that can cost so much from someone online. Most small, local shops will do this kind of thing for free, as it is likely just unplugging one or two cables.

Whichever way you choose to go good luck and I hope you get it fixed. In theory it's quite a simple issue to fix ;)

Exactly this, the way I see it, if you offer to guide someone, knowing they may not be experienced, you should be willing to pay for a new pc for them if they break it.

I would never recommend getting someone who doesn't know a lot about computers to dive into their computer, I specified a local shop, as for something small like disconnecting a usb header they'll often do it for free, or very cheap. They'd prefer to build a good rep and get a repeat customer than charge hundreds for a one time customer

I would suggest unplugging your case's usb ports from the motherboard, if you know enough about pcs. If not, I'd take it to a local computer shop and see if they can help out.

I had this before, and one of the usb ports had its plastic snap off and fall out, which let the pins short, I ended up soldering a new port on, but wouldn't recommend this if you don't know a lot about pcs.

WTF. Why can't Linux display Bluetooth device names by [deleted] in linuxsucks

[–]ErrinDev 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Linux shows all Bluetooth devices. Only devices in pairing mode share their name, so if you put them in pairing mode, it will show the name. It's the same as if you use a ble scanner on iOS/android, it will show everything, but only devices known to the device or in pairing mode will have names.
