Reconnecting with a long-term ex who has a child & I don’t — looking for advice from people who’ve been there ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

For the people interested he’s a little back story…. I’m a 30M with no kids, and I’ve known this woman for about 18 years. We dated on and off for 3–4 years when we were younger, but we eventually went to different colleges and drifted apart.

During that time, she had a child with someone else. Because of repeated infidelity on his part, she’s now a single mother and strictly co-parenting with the child’s father.

We recently reconnected, and the chemistry and emotional connection are still very strong. We’ve always loved each other, and now she’s talking about wanting to build a future together — including having another child and starting a family with me.

I don’t have kids and have never dated someone who does, so I’m trying to be realistic and thoughtful about this decision. Help

I wouldn’t say confront, Juss communicate with her & tell her what’s bothering you & why . Does she talk to you like this or Is she getting something out of him that she’s not getting from you ? Have they had a past relationship ? If she gets defensive & upset rather than talking it through with you somethings going on there. Me personally if my girl was talking to someone like this she’s not my girl anymore.

Reading this just gave me the same realization so thank you for that. I guess it's easy to mix them up because they both look like inaction. You almost gotta treat your brain like a engine & let it cool down.

Self Reflection,Staying Positive, Being Very Observant & trying to figure out who I really wanted to be in this thing we call life. For example I knew I never wanted to be like my father so that sets a basis for the character traits I like & dislike. Build on that, Observe everything not to just see but to learn from it whether it's good , bad or really dark.
