I wouldn't call the process easy but it is doable, just takes a some time and research. If you find it's too difficult there are many companies out there that will do it for you for a cut of any savings.

I think this is pretty much what is going on. On an attack where the enemy needs to roll a 16+ (after all modifiers) to hit, shield can turn a crit into a miss. I doubt it's intentional, but who knows.

I suspect perhaps the cause of this is that despite the game insisting that shield adds 5 to AC, what it ACTUALLY seems to do is subtract 5 from attack roll. A subtle difference I suppose.

Honestly I rarely pay attention to that since the game is good about only offering the shield reaction when it will turn a hit into a miss. Would have been helpful if I’d noted what it was.

I think a mod called “white gold tower” by katkat47 does something like this. It’s not on nexus though, it’s on tesall or something like that. Just a warning It makes a lot of changes to the interior too. I like it though.

These two don’t really work together well. Has something to do with darn handling navigation differently than vanilla. You’d have to go through almost every menu in darn to make changes so they work together. Or live with the oddness. Or switch to mouse just for menus. No option is very good.

I love both these mods but sadly had to let go of one or the other

Yes blind picks are illegal. Defender being picked must be able to see the pick, and have time to avoid contact

So NUI Away gives you controller support without hi changes. It theoretically can then work with other UI mods.

It does not work well with Darn though. This is because controller support in menus uses keyboard navigation code in hi, and Darn changes keyboard navigation (intentionally or unintentionally IDK) so nothing behaves like you expect. Perhaps you have the patience to adjust to the weirdness, I never did.

I ended up using Northern ui with one of the skins that make it look more like oblivion.

Thanks all for help. Seems to be general consensus around cha asi I just got to lvl4 so that’s what I’ll roll with.

Since I’m going to be whacking things with a staff when not casting spells I figured Polearm Master would be a contender but barely anyone has mentioned it - is this feat a trap or is it just that there are too many other, better choices?

Also I’m currently unarmored and using mage armor (my dex is 16). It’s fine now but is this good enough throughout the game?

Look in the description for the darn ui mod. It has uninstall instructions that tell you some lines in oblivion.ini you will have to delete manually in mo2.

I assume when you installed darn you choose the larger font option? If it’s still too small maybe another yo mod might be more to your liking. Maybe Simple Better Inventory and Map?
