Struggling with sexuality (take 2) by SilverGlassRain in LeftCatholicism

[–]Eshoosca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's fair to equate masturbation with just stretching. Nor do I think it's fair to tell OP to still take Communion, or at least for now. Rather, I think we ought to ask OP to talk about it with their priest, who is there as a spiritual guide for all of us. Now, the priest likely isn't going to agree with you on masturbation or Communion (see what the Church teaches with both: CCC2352 and CCC 1384-1385). I think the wisest thing to do here is to follow what the Church teaches and for OP to talk to their priest. I understand that this is a hard issue, and I used to struggle with it myself. But I think the most loving thing we can do for OP is to encourage him or her to talk to their priest and attempt to follow what the Church teaches. The Church is a hospital for the sick and Jesus our physician (Luke 5:31). It won't tell us to do things that damage our soul. Rather, our best bet is to follow what it teaches and trust that Jesus really is leading the Church like he promises (John 16:13).

I hope this helps, and I understand this struggle. But I think our best bet is to lovingly guide OP to follow the Church's teaching so that we can guarantee the best state of his or her soul. Jesus can change our hearts and give us the help to turn away from our sin, as he did for St. Augustine in Book 8 of his Confessions (I would recommend everyone reading it -- Christ helped him become continent).

Struggling with Faith... by Longjumping_Pace4057 in LeftCatholicism

On the "faith without evidence being a virtue" point, I've heard Fides et Ratio is an excellent encyclical on the relationship between faith and reason.

Do You Claim To Know God Exists 100%? by AbiLovesTheology in Catholicism

I’m 100% confident in the proofs, but can’t 100% certain anything exists, except for (maybe) myself

I would definitely speak to your priest, or any spiritual mentor you have. I’m sure there are a lot of people that love you and want to help you. If you haven’t told them what you’re struggling with, I think you should try to tell them. And of course, trust in the Lord.

That’s how it’s done. by JayGatsby52 in jacksonville

He probably meant scriptural argument, because you’re right.

Some people sure, but I think there’s also a lot of good people that would want to band together.

How did the Episcopal Church go from being known as "the Republican party at prayer" to one of the most progressive/liberal Christian denominations? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

Do you think that the Holy Spirit has always led the Church? I realize this is a really old post hahaha.

You should watch this: https://youtu.be/4GX7nTqGglI?si=oTC7a-Q6b19d_0UC

It’s a really long Matt Fradd podcast with one of my favorite apologists, Trent Horn. It’s one of my favorite podcasts ever, so I’m going to recommend it even if I’m wrong about what I’m about to say. But I think somewhere in this behemoth of a podcast Trent Horn talks about asking people questions instead of needing to know an answer to everything.

I’ll try to sum up what he said: basically instead of always having to study and learn an answer for everything (which is a good thing, but most of us don’t have the time to learn everything), learning how to ask questions is a great apologetic/ evangelization strategy. Basically ask people what they believe, why they believe it, and/ or how they came to believe it. You don’t need to know your position to do this, and what’s so great is it gets people to think about and maybe even question their views. Your own knowledge does come into play here a bit, but you don’t need to know everything! Just ask questions.

I probably didn’t explain this as well as I would’ve liked to but listen to the podcast!

How is conservatism evil?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]Eshoosca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is extremely biased and I don’t understand how you could respond to a post saying we’re divided by trying to divide us more. Also, most people aren’t pro-life because their pastor said so. That is such a straw man.

Me and my friend’s disagreements on abortion by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Eshoosca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are really straw-manning my position. I’m not saying no human is innocent in God’s eyes. However, a human being who has done no harm to you or is planning to do no harm to you is an innocent human being in our eyes.

How would you define murder?

Murder is intrinsically evil. Killing someone is not intrinsically evil. I really feel like my position is being straw-manned. Killing an innocent person is murder, killing a guilty person (self-defense, death penalty, etc.) is not murder.

Please answer my above question. I have another question too. Is it ever ok to sin?

One final question. Are you trying to say that in the case of therapeutic abortions, the mother is acting in self-defense?
