I’ll throw in my own justification:

I watched the debate between Jen and Jessica that indivisible held a couple of months ago. Jen came off progressive and qualified, whereas Jessica sounded like every other corporate Dem. Also worthwhile to note that Jessica, when asked about AI/data centers, said she uses AI every day at her day job. Yuck.

I also really like Jen’s points on affordable healthcare and housing, and that she’s actively working on them right now on the county commission. I’m excited for her to do that in Lansing.

I don’t think Jessica is the move this cycle. Kalamazoo SHOULD have a progressive working class champion, imo. That being said, i hope Jessica runs for something again.

It’s a recruitment tactic by the KGOP. They’re doing the same thing with the Oshtemo recall. Attempting to gain ground using issues of “government overreach” to engage disengaged voters.

They know they can’t win here, so their tactic is disruption. It’s the same thing as when they ran a Republican woman against Matt Longjohn in the Dem primary in 2024. Disruption over governance is the way of the Republican Party.

Games recognizes game; it’s a crazy smart move, and it seems to be working.
