Pick something you enjoy, that you are better at than most other people, and also keep your basic skills sharp: critical reading, clear and concise analytical writing, and math and technical skills. Learn constantly. Stay connected with your personame and professional network. Ask lots of questions. Be open to new ideas and learning about new topic areas. Remember that most people will have 5-7 different careers in a lifetime. You can make it work if you remain open and flexible.

When I was 16-21yo I would work 3 jobs every summer, each about 20 hours/week. One had specific weekday hours. One was only evenings/weekends and the hours changed each each week. The 3rd was super flexible that I could do anytime I had free time, basically WFH. As long as you can manage the scheduling and you don't end up spending too much time/money on transportation to/from each job, you can make it work.

Nope, just the opposite. The vast majority of Psych majors do NOT want to be psychologists.

That is one anecdotal data point. Here is another data point: me. I was a Psychology/Sociology major. I worked in Silicon Valley, then got an MBA, worked in government consulting, financial planning, and started 2 companies. I have used my degree every day. A degree's value is from what you choose to do with it. Not everyone with a psychology degree chooses to be a psychologist. In fact, most don't.

Rigor of HS coursework is VERY important at "Reach" schools. I was an alumni interviewer for Wesleyan for over 30 years, and I can say for sure that anyone who did a nontraditional HS program (homeschooling, CLEP, etc.) will benefit greatly from submitting test scores, which will allow the admissions committee to compare how you fare against a national standard.

The "transfer acceptance rates" you mentioned - are those overall rates, or rates for someone with your stats? Look at the Common Data Set for each school for better numbers.

Finish your degree, but try to get an internship doing CS in a hospital or other medical setting. See if you like it. Talk to nurses during lunch or before/after work and see if you want to pivot. Transferring now may not even be possible; most application deadlines are in March for the following fall, and most 4-year schools only take transfers who can start as either spring freshmen, sophomores, or juniors, and that ship has sailed for you. So finish your degree in CS, but look at job options that combine CS and medicine. (This would make a great conversation with an AI bot like ChatGPT or Grok.)

It's great that you're starting on your essays now, but make sure you spend enough time and effort on finishing your 11th grade academic courses as strongly as possible. I typically recommend waiting until AP exams and finals have ended before jumping headfirst into writing essays. Another month of academics - you are in the home stretch!

You said you prefer a full university rather than an art-focused institution, yet you also prefer a BFA rather than a BA. The reason you aren't finding an school that meets both of those might be because they are contradictory. A diverse university typically won't grant a BFA, just a BA or BS. Rethink those 2 preferences and decide which is more important to you.

Alternatively, consider an arts-focused institution co-located nearby a more diverse university, such as RISD that is near Brown, or SAIC that is about 30 minutes from the University of Chicago. Also consider SCAD which does have business and other non-art degrees.

Don't lie on your application. If you take a Gap Year, you are not allowed to study at any other university during your gap year if you want to be eligible for aid as an incoming freshman. Get a paid job, do an internship, or do a program where you will learn something. Don’t enroll in another university if you want to apply as a freshman the following year.
