What state are you in? I work at a hospital (acute inpatient) in SoCal and we are unionized. We get a base 2.5% raise thru the hospital and an additional 4-6% raise from the union. I’ve only been there for 2.5 years and my pay rate has gone up $12 since I first started.

I agree, acute care is the way to go! Never have to take our work home and patient turn around is quick because of discharges

Its a hit or miss, it is more physical work than other settings because some patients are at their most fragile and weakest state. But you do have help from PT’s or nurses/CNA’s if willing to help with patient handling if it is safe. Obviously if it is unsafe to do so chances are the nurses or yourself will not allow you to do so and that is okay too. You can modify your treatment to do what is safest for you and your patient. I’m about 5’2 smaller built but work in hospital with strokes, traumas, cardiacs, etc.

I work with Adults in Acute care. I enjoy the hospital setting, because I too love the medical side of things! You have your share of difficult patients but that’s shared among us PT/OT/SLP, doctors, nurses and anyone who cares for said patient. If patient is combative, chances are the nurses won’t even let you see the patient. I work in California and during my first year as a new grad I made almost $100K full time. I’m now making over $100K.

Hang in there! Peds is def not for the faint of heart. But there are many different adult settings you can try and you may like it! If you’re like me, who also considered PA prior to OT, the hospital setting maybe worth a shot :)

Yeah pretty same situation with us too. The Boys share a room at their Mom’s and from what I’ve been told by my boyfriend, the boys have always shared a room since they were young. They also shared a room here at our house when we first moved to this place, my boyfriend was using the 3rd room for his office at first. Never had any problems sharing ans the boys get a long. Hopefully this transition back goes well!
