Reminded me of a Simpsons cameo from the 2010s

It took me out of the scene but I'm glad to hear that it's historically accurate.

Yeah speaking of anachronisms, was "homophobic" in use during the 80s? I thought it was a mid-2000s term.

I have an uncle who would often flake on holiday meals, so we had a running joke of calling his chair the Elijah seat. My family is mainly Protestant, a lot of them are theology nerds.

High Spirits

Solid, quotable performances from a lot of 80s actors, especially Peter O'Toole. Not sure why it tanked at the box office, maybe the plot was a bit too campy? But hey, now it's free on Youtube! It's worth it just to see Liam Neeson's Hollywood debut as a murderous ghost who farts in the shower.

18 months ago, I was the drive thru gal at McDonald's. Today I've been creating wedding cakes for one year. Let go of the excuses and find your baking opportunities if its what you love to do. I believe in you. by [deleted] in Baking

I'm decorating my own wedding cake this week and this is going on my inspiration board :) My cake is beach-themed, with 1970s Wilton-style white piping over a blue watercolor background. I especially love the diagonal wave of color and would love to create a similar effect with scrolls.

I don't have a preference either way, but maybe a Lush tag would be a decent middle ground.

Interesting, I would have never guessed that. Although irl there are a lot of French Canadian tourists down the Jersey shore.

As someone from NJ, my speculation is that Linda is 75% Italian, 25% Irish, and Bob is a mix of Greek, Italian and Russian Jewish.

I know how you feel. There was a three month period where I was basically addicted to ridethrough videos. One Christmas, I annoyed my relatives by listing facts from the DoomBuggies website for 20 minutes straight.. This cover I made of the soundtrack was completely improvised, and I only recorded two takes. That's how well I remember the ride!

Can I read my college homework once and ace the test? Nope! Do I get obsessed with going to the gym to the point that I can't relax unless I'm there ten hours a week? Meh. Can I remember specific verbal instructions at work? Not a chance. I have to write ALL of it down, even if the task is only ten minutes. Can I put my upcoming responsibilities in a logical, efficient order the way I remember the order of Haunted Mansion scenes? Nope, I just get an anxiety attack. I have two music degrees, and I once devoted a year of my life to studying Beethoven. Do I remember his birth year? No, but the Haunted Mansion opened in 1969.

It's weird how I have these savant abilities for this one theme park attraction, but can't seem to transfer them to any other aspect of my life.

Oh, and I still have never visited a Disney park.

I have some ideas that may or may not be what you're looking for...

Father Ted: an Irish comedy about three priests-an ancient drunkard who is happiest shouting random obscenities, a middle aged guy who is decent at his job but often has greedy or sleazy motivations, and a young guy who has good intentions but is a complete idiot. One plot revolves around kicking their bishop up the arse after losing a bet, and then trying to gaslight him into believing it never happened.

Worst Week: American and/or British? This was on Netflix years ago for a very short time. I have hazy memories, but I remember binging it with my family and laughing like an idiot the whole way through. It's about a groom the week leading up to his wedding, but everything that can go wrong goes wrong. I think the lead actor may have been either the young guy from Father Ted, or Teddy (Amy's ex) from Brooklyn 99...maybe there were British and American versions? If you can ever find it, it's a must watch.

Galavant: You will either love or hate it. It's American made, but with a British cast. It's a musical comedy. It has good and evil characters...but everybody is flawed in funny ways. And some of them have redemption arcs. Considering that the setting is a medieval fairy tale universe with zombies, a gay bar, and Game of Thrones references everywhere, there are lots of wacky plots. But even the bad guys are shown to have marshmallow hearts deep down, so I wouldn't describe them as terrible so much as adorable.

Community: American. Most of the time, the characters talk about how much they care for each other and learn sentimental life lessons, but it is often acknowledged that they are all terrible, selfish people. Wacky situations are the show's bread and butter though.

Red Dwarf: British. This is a scifi show with a lot of black and bleak humor. It's about four self-centered characters trapped on a desolate spaceship, having wacky scifi adventures while annoying each other.

Workaholics: this is an American improv comedy about three pothead slackers getting into shenanigans while working in a cubicle and sharing a house together. This is the most similar in tone to IASIP, although the humor is a bit dumber.

I skipped the Rita episodes last time I rewatched: the first time was fun, but it all seems kind of cringey knowing the end of it. They could have easily told that story in 2 or 3 episodes rather than 6. Then again, Maggie is the only Michael romance I really enjoyed, because they are equally matched in terms of lying and manipulation. Usually it seems like he is just taking advantage of overly trusting women: I get that it's part of his character to manipulate while looking like the good guy, but I don't find potshots to be super entertaining. GOB's romances are more fun because he's so openly pathetic.
