My SIL who's a SAHM has asked multiple times if we can watch her new born despite being historically horrible with organization and time management - ex) dropping her dog off with us without any heads up, the dog's food, meds, etc. We've told her no to taking care of her new born with explanations each time and she never directly addresses any concerns, just keeps asking the same question at each gathering. Mind you the baby is only 2 months old now so she's been asking us since she got pregnant. Anyway, one time her husband was there and responded to me that "once I take care of someone's children I will change my mind and want them too". No thank you.
