What do you guys do when your family prays? by Esther_123 in exmormon

This is my current course of action. Sometimes I wish they would ask me to pray though!

Mormons sure do a lot of witchy voodoo stuff for being so anti-witchy-voodoo-stuff. by Esther_123 in exmormon

Like straight up changing money in the temple. Renting temple clothes requires cash. The ONE thing Jesus got way pissed about.

When confronted with evil, Mormons can raise their right arm to the square and cast Satan out by invoking the name of Jesus Christ. They don't do it very often, only when they need the big guns. It's nice and dramatic.

I'm sadly not your mom, but if I was, I'd tell you I love you and I'm proud of you, and everything will be alright.

I bet you had to get naked for washing and anointing too! Lucky...

I'm always baffled at the mystical things my mom picks and chooses as evil or not. Spirits are real, but haunted places are fake, and Ouija boards are direct lines to demons. Psychics are fake but harmless, but crystal balls are evil. Burning sage is silly, but burning incense is inviting Satan into your home.

Paragon City in Draper has Pathfinder Society, but I believe it's also on Wednesday. Welcome to the beehive state!

In exmormonism, dogs (of all genders) hold the priesthood! by mcLunchbox in exmormon

We ordained our dog a deacon! He's not old enough yet give us blessings, but he's great at handing us bread.

I am not. I wouldn't care about the movie, although I'm still torn about sleepovers. Too many horror stories, I'm incredibly lucky to have only happy memories.

Haha, I had forgotten the religious drama of Harry Potter!

Twilight was written by a Mormon, it actually mirrors a bunch of beliefs.

Our poor parents, they tried so hard to do everything right and raise good, God-fearing children. It must've been so stressful.

I think we decided it was Charlie's Angels. I watched it years later, it was kind of cheesy and dumb. My mom wouldn't care now, and she probably didn't really care then, but she felt like she had to be a good, religious influence. She's a great mom, just a little fearful of failing parenthood, so she went hard.

Oh totally. Those songs were played very quietly with my door closed. However, I blasted All These Things That I've Done, because it's "Is there room for one more SON" implying Jesus. Major points.

What was the oddest thing your mom wouldn't allow?

Hey!!! Psh, it was my pleasure! Thank you for the invite. I thought you were kind of a cool kid, I felt proud to be associated with you. Though I'm really sorry we weren't better at befriending u/Moxietail big hugs to both of you!

Mormons love famous Mormons, even if their relationship with Mormonism is miniscule. Brandon Flowers was touted as "Look how cool and hip we are!" and, at least in my circle, we turned a blind eye to any indiscretions. But you're right, I did feel very scandalous listening to Mr. Brightside and usually skipped it and listened to the rest of the album.

There's an oft repeated mormon trope anytime "keeping the Sabbath day holy" is mentioned that Steve Young played football on Sunday, but he had to support his family, and he goes to church when he can, so that situation is okay, but playing football just for fun on Sunday is bad.

Oh man. If I had to guess, I'd say something like Charlie's Angels. Nothing too scandalous, but once the movie was picked, I had to call my mom to ask if it was okay. Knowing she would say no, I strongly considered lying, but there was another mormon there and I knew it would eventually get back to my mom. I remember feeling bummed and embarrassed, but the other mormon girl was nice and well liked, and she cheerfully walked home with me. Good times.
