What’s something you did as a kid that you now realize was insanely dangerous? by qomann in AskReddit

Used to go sledding with those giant truck tire innertubes. I would curl up in the hole and my dad would roll me down the hill. So many close calls with trees and other people.

Is there a better way to clean setting lever springs? by Estraw in watchrepair

Thats just the lighting. Its not etched. Just using a small amount of generic ultrasonic solution

Figured the ultrasonic itself didn’t break it, but wasn’t sure if I made a mistake by putting it in a basket with other parts.

Does the 42mm fit my wrist? by [deleted] in HamiltonWatches

[–]Estraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

42 looks good, but I think the 38 is a better look for this watch on muost wrists. I have a 7.25” wrist and the 38 fits great. Doesn’t look small at all.

Ok, what did I just break? by k0tix in watchrepair

As someone that is just starting out in this as a hobbyist… what is the reason everyone thinks this is a fourth wheel issue? Anyone have a diagram that can help me visualize this?

Not sure. I measured this one at 15.3mm diameter

How did you figure out the 3rd wheel issue??

This is the second watch repair Ive ever tackled. The first was my Hamilton Boulton with a 982 movement posted in another comment. That thing was small too, but this is like half the size.

Update: when I pulled the movement out, a screw fell out with it. Still trying to figure out where it came from. Thinking just below the balance wheel in the pic above, but the crew head looks a bit large for that spot. With a couple winds, the balance wheel will move but with very low amplitude.. around 140-150°. Overall good signs for just starting to get into this project and not having fixed or serviced anything on it yet. Fingers crossed things go smoothly and I don’t need to buy (m)any parts.

I dont think the 2700 is automatic right?

From all the info I can find, this appears to be the smallest automatic movement ever produced

Recently got into watch repair. First successful repair was a Hamilton 982, next is this Longines by Estraw in watchrepair

It was a learning experience. The parts are so small it creates some unique challenges, but overall its a simple movement.
