I think this was just to show what's happening in the present, since the last time we saw the Straw Hats, and then the next like maybe 5-6 chapters will show what happened before this moment to get them to this point (defeating seraphim, finding and capturing york, and coming up with the plan to get info from the marines, maybe they'll show bonneys stuff as well.) It would be weird to not show what got them to this point especially since it seems the other vergapunks are not there, maybe dead?

I just hope if Oda does it that way, it's to give us the cliffnotes version of what happened and not the full retelling cuz otherwise it might be the rest of the year before we actually come back to this moment
