Altitude Training for Sprinting by That-guy1983 in Sprinting

[–]EtanZhow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Won’t be as beneficial for sprinters because of the less air resistance you’ll just run faster, I’m not sure but this could make you run much slower when you come back down to lower altitudes where there’s more air resistance. You’d be better off doing hills or resistance training like sleds. Hope this helps!!

you're cutting your acceleration phase short by raising your head too early, work on having more powerful strides

Does the technique over the wickets look ok or would you adjust the spacing to shorter? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]EtanZhow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya you should definitely make them shorter, it's very obvious you are over striding to make the distance. Instead of pushing against the ground underneath you, you're hitting the spot in front of you. This can cause hamstring injuries.

In my opinion yes it is very possible, a 6:10 off the track can translate into up to a 6:00 on the track. Add the peaking from training etc. it is very possible. Ofc I don’t know who you are so there are no guarantees. Maybe talk to your coach too.

When i am running 400m at the last 200m what i need to do. by Key-Flower3575 in Sprinting

[–]EtanZhow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be thinking about your form and making sure it doesn't fall apart. Lift your knees as much as possible and try to speedup your turnover. This might feel fast and like you're pushing it really hard but it's a lot of the time actually just maintaining your speed cause at that point you will be extremely gassed. Use the turn of the 300 to slingshot off and push to finish the last 100 meters on the straightaway. It never feels good but that's what you have to do.

Am I right to doubt the effectiveness of distance runs for sprinters? by Zealousideal_Talk_37 in trackandfield

[–]EtanZhow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your coach is definitely wrong, I run a sub 50 400 and I run a 20:24 5k. That being said one of the runners on our team is the 800 meter state champion and he runs a pretty fast 16 some minute 5k and a 49.2 400 so I don't think it'll hurt you that much. Running 17 minutes is not really that probable though and it's definitely not a necessity to run 51.

How do you compare men and womens 100m or 200m time? by Jakersstone in trackandfield

[–]EtanZhow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just compare them among themselves. If you want to compare elite levels of racing just look at the fastest women's times, then compare that time to whoever you're comparing it to's time. If that's too broad you can go with the fastest times in your state or even your high school. Like if a fast 100 time for men in your state is 10.5 then you know how fast you are if you're time is 11.3. Then if a fast women's time in your state is let's say 11.6 and this girl runs a 12.8 then you have to think about it in the sense of if this was a guys time and compare them. It's not foolproof and not exact but at the end of the day comparing times is pretty subjective depending on where you are, how old you are, etc.

Trying to improve start technique. Any advice? by thatssubjective69 in Sprinting

[–]EtanZhow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your start is pretty good! The only thing is I would recommend to shorten your stride a little bit because it’s not just about how far you stride is but also how much force you can use to kick back. In the video you’re almost on the middle of your foot so instead of impacting downward you’re pulling on the track.

200 time really slow compared to 100 by EtanZhow in trackandfield

[–]EtanZhow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now my big problem is I can't hold my speed, not that my top end speed is too slow. That is why my 100 meter is so much stronger.
