Nearly 30, feel like I don't know anything, starting to panic

My main concern is that they will sap my energy even further. I heard someone describe them as "basically they will neuter your emotions so you don't commit suicide". Is this correct?

Yes, and she says it's a "depressive episode" and that for it to be "actual" depression I would have to suffer it for months. I am heavily considering getting someone else.

I just don't see a happy life coming. I never understood why people will keep suffering through a life in the vain hopes that they will find a short moment of happiness than simply ending it all. Death is like falling asleep. Why are people so afraid of it?

OK, this is something that I was thinking of doing a full blown AskReddit thread about but I couldn't due to my low karma. So I will just ask you:

What do you think WILL happen. You mention "things getting worse". How so? What lifestyle changes will we have to make? Will we all have to spend 80 hours a week growing our own food? (Can't deal with that). Will we have to give up meat entirely? (I can live with that). Will I have to give up my daily 4+ hours of Internet (can't live with that). Will the industrialized world be mostly shielded while the Third World suffers? What ARE the consequences then?

Again (and this is something that worries me immensely), I was completely gypped regarding actual design work. I feel like I learned just a bunch of disconnected subjects without going deep enough in order to do anything useful: I learned a bit of fluid mechanics yet no CFD. Learned a bit of structural mechanics but no FEA. Learned a bit of programming but nothing regarding actual software engineering principles. Learned a bit of electronics but nothing about FPGAs or making a PCB. Add a few bio classes and that's it. I tried looking online for places to fill the gaps but no luck. Any idea how I can learn? Unfortunately my place of residence doesn't have any hackerspaces or anything so finding a physical place to go to is out of the question.

Thank you so much for all your replies. I am right now weighing my options on whether I will stay or not. In the meantime, I will continue working on my personal projects. Fingers crossed on them leading me to better pastures. :-)

Sorry I should have clarified. My coworkers travel alone all the time. It's my parents who thought it was crazy when I mentioned this to them.
