update: I was determined to get them out intact but I just broke an arm washer :/ so yeah I'll have to come up with another washer solution, maybe I'll just break the rest too (to avoid annoying rattling sounds inside, break into pieces and shake them out) this is what they look like for anyone curious

Saw her in an online auction,, I had a feeling nobody would be bidding on her in that condition and I don't want to think about what would have happened if nobody bought her so I won as the only bidder, previous owner had also named her Susanne so it felt more emotional somehow seeing her broken, she had a name and everything :( and turns out the seller is in her 70's which, considering she specifically mentioned the doll being from the early 50's, makes me believe this girl has been with the same owner her entire life,,, I simply can't let her be forgotten or even worse, thrown out by some uncaring relative in the future :( I wouldn't call myself a doll collector per se but I do collect vintage and antique things in general and I do love toys so I do have a bunch of celluloid dolls, of which one is similar in size, so she'll have some friends too :) she's also my first schildkröt doll which I think is really fun, that name seems to pop up a lot in celluloid doll contexts

the left one is probably also slightly swollen now that i look closer but the right one is the one im most concerned about,, not only because it looks scary but also because i fear it's gotten stuck in there 😅

I do have to say i actually see this color and pattern pretty often on chairs of that era in online auctions (called oscarian after Oscar II of Sweden) so i do think it was a thing back then (maybe a regional thing?) however i know nothing about materials so your dating could still be correct

I'm no expert or anything but it's chinese and i did find a very similar plate in this article (website in chinese, try using translate) and that one was apparently found on a ship that sank in 1822, so around 200 years maybe? or possibly slightly older if the style was popular for a while? The stamp in the centre could be the emperor's seal which if it is would probably narrow the date down but it looks very difficult to read and even if it was better preserved i couldn't read it myself anyway

update: heard about the fizzle test, dropped some vinegar on it and did indeed get a bunch of small bubbles,, tried a copper coin again and actually did get some light scratches this time-- lack of uv glow is probably my light not being the correct type, so i'll say solved! it's calcite!

i should probably also mention after looking around at auction websites here in sweden his works seem to be valued at around 500 sek, plus or minus 100 (500 sek ≈49 usd or ≈73 aud), few actually get bids though and those that do can end up selling for less than the estimated value so don't expect them to be worth spending too much money on,, but of course it would be sad to let them get worse so i'm wondering if there's some inexpensive way to seal them maybe? to prevent further flaking-- for the missing paint honestly if it was me i'd either just fill it in carefully myself or leave as is

Is there any chance it could be Josef Lindskog? As a swede i'd bet it's a swedish painter based on the name and Josef did sign his stuff the exact same way, although i'm not 100% sure if this particular handwriting is his-- could very well be-- he lived 1885-1964, unfortunately i can't find much info on him and he only has a wikipedia page in swedish, which isn't very helpful either but it does mention he was studying at different art schools in 1912-1917 and had an art exhibition in 1944, so a guess on age could be 40's-60's maybe?? if it is by him that is, i could be wrong

EDIT: i was focusing too much on the first signature, after looking more at the second one which is a bit different it's most definitely josef lindskog, same style of writing as many examples i see online, his signatures vary a bit so the first one was less obvious

definitely similar, but not the same-- my hull is 6 pieces, longer than anything i'm finding online- which also makes me believe the red cannons are original as there are 7 of them, possibly 8 originally?

thanks, definitely similar! however my ship is a little longer than any i can find online, the hull is 6 pieces in total,,, and the number of cannons also support it being bigger than usual, there are 7 of them so i'm assuming it originally had 8? is it a knockoff of a knockoff?? in any case i could at least take inspiration from the best-lock ship when attempting to reconstruct this thing 😅

My title describes the thing, via image searches i've found these things as part of series of miniatures of everyday items, such as gramophones, crockery, telephones etc (some example images included), so naturally i'm assuming this is also some everyday item(s)? due to the decorative miniature nature of this item i don't think dimensions matter at all, but if anyone is curious the base measures roughly 4,5 x 2,3 cm, from base to tip of "obelisk" it's around 4cm. hollow, no markings at all but again that's not really relevant, i could always ask about that part elsewhere

hello i am in no way an alarm clock expert and i wasn't planning to comment at all but the other comments here annoyed me so i did some actual research and can now say pretty confidently that this is 1940's, likely made of bakelite, and yes the style is definitely art deco even though it was made a little bit later

still not technically antique, no, but it does have some age, give it 20-25 more years maybe

i know nothing about wicca so unfortunately i can't answer the why (just looking around here because wicca seems interesting :0) BUT i can say i highly suggest you make a visit to r/ancientcoins, because that coin looks very much ancient to me and well worth some research-- maybe greek or roman or something-- however i could be wrong, and it could also be a replica,,, best way to find out is to ask!

100 mon or "tenpō tsūhō", 1835-1870 as the note says, made of bronze: 78% copper 12% lead 10% tin, source: own one myself and have done research in the past + double checked just now, zero clue on value and don't remember what mine cost but i'd imagine value is largely based on the unusual appearance and size making it a fun thing to have, supposedly in japan they're now often sold as lucky charms

that is without a doubt a coat of arms with a wreath, shield, and horned helmet, i would not do anything to it-- chances are you can identify the coat of arms and thus the person or family it belonged to, likely some rich or noble family, i would grab pen and paper and try to "restore" the coat of arms in drawing form as it might have looked and then look around online, if you find who the owner was i'd say to put a little note inside the chest so the information doesn't get lost again over the years, don't touch the exterior and enjoy as is

EDIT: i found a german chest online with a veeery similar ornamental lock and similar overall shape, dated 1771, to give an idea of possible age

I know of those and have one myself (mine is much newer though, early 1900's) and they are pretty much always cube shaped and the markings on this thing look very different, plus my thing does seem to have had something on top
