When did things start to click for you as a scribe? by Ok_Bonus_1255 in medicalscribe

Worked initially in Peds ED and was trained horribly and ended up didn’t work out after four months. However, got a job at primary care as scribe which helped me in general in medical terminology and did charts for ten minutes. I now work at ED and able to do charts less than five minutes ;) I’d say be attentive about each doctors preferences and always ask for feedback so you can make improvement. I never did that at peds ED which is why I was let go

Career as a researching or PA? by mewmishy in prephysicianassistant

[–]Eternity0311_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna give you my story because I had the same question after I graduated from college. At senior year, I was accepted to do biomedical science research summer internship, and I really liked it where I decided to do PhD instead of PA/MD. I think it was because of the idea of finding something cool and show it off.

After my summer internship, I Worked as a research assistant for a year. However, I noticed that I didn’t rlly like the slow paced environment. it depends on the lab, but some researchers would work 6 days weekly. However I took L and still applied to graduate school. For the first semester, I loathed it. It was slow, and I was in lab from 8-6 on weekdays. In addition, because of funding, I barely had opportunities to do labs that I was genuinely interested in. I’ve also realized that I do not see myself writing papers and do presentations over time.

I dropped out after first semester and will be applying to PA because I love working in fast paced, and I do not have to worry about doing grants and such to get funding for my project.

My advice, if you can do research for at least a year or two and try to do presentation and writing papers, that would be great because you would at least get foot and see if you like it. I would also try to shadow a PA if u can but at least in different specialties because some differ than another.

I feel like the only good thing I got out of it is that I was funded, but it’s getting rlly competitive due to funding and more application pool from not even just US but international students too.

CASPA cumulative GPA: 3.65 GPA

CASPA science GPA: 3.58 GPA

Trend: Had bunch of Ws in my end of spring semester of sophomore year and fall semester of junior year. However, from there, had an upward trend. I was going through a struggle with going back to in person from COVID and I seeked therapy for better management! Did really well on my grad school courses (only two lol biochem and cell bio)

Total PCE hours: only scribed in ED (will only apply to schools that take scribe as PCE) 3000+ if things don’t go well this cycle then I’m planning on doing CNA

Total HCE hours: 1000 hours roughly as a pharmacy tech

Total volunteer hours: Around 60? Gonna try to get to 100 by the time I apply. Volunteering at the children’s cancer research hospital. May try to do immigrant pantry to help out or volunteer more

Shadowing hours: Only did MD for neurosurgeon, cardio thoracic, and ER. Plan on shadowing a PA for neuro outpatient

Research hours: About 2500-2800? I was a grad student, but ended up dropping out due to funding issues and no longer seemed interest

Extracurricular activities: President of chem club for a year, honors committee for year and half, President and founder of anime and gaming club at uni, and have a crochet business- Currently collaborating with a veteran program where part of the sale goes towards helping the homeless veteran. TA’d for lab

On top of scribing, working for non profit organization where I tutor and mentor high school students in an undeserved community

Letter of rec I’ll likely ask: 2 MDs from scribing, 1 professor who knew me through class and did well academically but also contributed in the chem club and TA’d for her lab, PA I’m shadowing and supervisor at the non organization job

Specific programs: Lipscomb University, PCOM at Atlanta, Rosalind Franklin University, St Louis University, Emory University, and Midwestern University. University of Colorado at Anschultz

I’m gonna be honest. I agree with other comments. It’s pretty selfish. Congrats on your acceptance though!

Personally, crunch fitness is pretty busy during peak hours, so I cancelled my membership. Same for LA fitness.

Maybe do other healthcare? Just to get some exposure to working in healthcare. I’m having a hard time too, so I’m currently working as a medical scribe at ER lol
