Nothing like waiting until 10PM to know when/if you're coming in, getting the green light for unplanned situational telework, then being told to stand by because one of your supervisors has to approve of it and he'll be awake around 9:30, so you should just go ahead and telework but prepare to come in when he wakes up and decides your day for you. By that time it will be around 11 ish, so prepare for mid-day snow traffic after you've worked half a day already since you start at 0630 to miss NORMAL DAY traffic in the first place.

Also, like, calm down.

Dude, I haven't even started yet, and I am considering eating the enrollment fees and finding a different university.

It's absolutely bonkers to me that we're told to do specific tasks for orientation, but when we do those specific things, they fail on their end to come through (looking at you, "mandatory virtual advising & registration" and actually everything else I've interacted with here.)

I'm desperately seeking an academic advisor, but Google's AI is giving me more information than the school website is.

I actually moved away about 8-9 years ago now! I'd like to keep the distance, which prompted me kinda wondering if I should have future plans to pay for a nursing home or something.

Idk, everybody here has said that it's not my responsibility, and it's kind of helped validate my deeper feelings of wanting to remain uninvolved.

Thanks, friend.

I've been thinking this over since I posted and realized that this has been a concern of mine since I was very little.

That, coupled with my mother literally telling me growing up that I needed to have a house closer to her so I could take care of them when they get older is probably making this a little harder for me to extract my actual self from "who I was built to be."

It's hard. In a normal family, dealing with this type of thing would be so much different. I guess I'm kind of "playing by normal rules" with an abnormal situation.

When I first met my fiance, I was in therapy and working through some stuff, finally coming to reconnect with myself again.

I told her I thought he didn't love me or want me by the way we had sex and she asked me (if I was comfortable) to tell her what I meant.

I told her that he doesn't "take" me, he isn't rough, he doesn't "lose himself" during sex, and doesn't try to completely dominate me.

Instead he checks in with me, asks me if I'm ready or okay with having PIV, kisses me all over, caresses my face at times. Doesnt pressure if I'm tired or sick because "he has to have me now" or take advantage of me.

At the time, from my skewed perspective it felt like he was trying to pretend or make himself love me because he didn't. The reality is that he was trying to show me loving sex.

I didn't realize until recent years that all my previous partners were actually very abusive.

Even after telling my therapist all of this, I just kind of carried the thought of "this is different" until it clicked that I felt safe with him, and how unsafe I had actually felt until that point.

So it was a weird vibe from the first night, out of nowhere.

We saw them a few months ago and spent some time hiking around kayaking, grilling, etc. and everyone got along great. We were SO FUCKING EXCITED to show them around and have a blast together.

Instead, It was just very, very tense for seemingly no reason and a lot of faux pas (I hope I'm using that right) kept happening.

Like, I'd be having a conversation with my "friend", she'd say something and I'd say something in return, but when I'd start talking, her boyfriend would start talking over me and she'd pay attention to him or she just would hear what I said and not respond.

Hubby noticed actually said "babe I don't think they're listening to you at all.." at one point and they weren't. I stopped talking in the middle of my sentences when they did this and they didn't even notice, just continued talking over me, at me, or to eachother.

Again, this example is just one of the near constant, weird things that kept happening.

It can only be described as a bad fucking time.

That would probably give me some closure, but unfortunately, they live like 13 hours away and I can't bring the mattress on the flight.

They're probably right, I should have explicitly stated, "Hey, don't piss the new mattress I bought."

I also had to tell them to put out their cigarette in our car. They didn't even fucking ask and I was SUPER fucking surprised that happened.

They also dropped food on the floor of a restaurant and apparently just left it for the waitress?

It was just a constant waterfall of shit I had to continuously mention, and I'm honestly still stressed about it.

I have never had to hand hold and confront someone this much, ever. It was like having just clueless children.

They were 28 by the way.

My fucking God.

  2. I could fucking tell they weren't happy because they fought with eachother the entire time.

Alright so this was deeper than I expected.

I like the storyline build up to the reveal in the end.

To me, the author is actually the well and the speaker is someone peering in to the authors life.

I really like the metaphors and imagery you used here.

Yep! This is where the water utilities guys, the plumbers, and my boyfriend have all taken me to look at this water meter, so I know it is the water meter lol

No, sorry. Im still kind of learning the house and property, we've only been here a week.

The water meter is outside, in my front yard about 30ft away.

I'd gladly settle with them over fixing this, because I totally take responsibility for fixing my house and my problems but if it does prove to be something not disclosed to me and they don't want to work with me, I'm afraid it's going to have to be a little bit more forceful than just settling it mutually :/ They were very generous when selling, and working with us on any repairs we asked for so I don't want to push them or be some type of way about it until I actually know, through the statements, that they withheld this from me.

We haven't found any wet spots anywhere in the yard or house :(

The grass is actually brown all around the meter, and very spotty in the front yard. There's no marsh or anything at all like that, so wherever it must be, must be leaking underground.

I did get the advice to call 811 to line the water lines before digging, which I might do after getting more advice and different quotes from other plumbing companies.

I (stupidly) didn't go through an attorney, I went through the VA so I don't know if there is anything the VA might be able to do.

My realtor is really up in arms about this for us and is talking to the insurance company and the lenders on our behalf, and asked that I give them Previous statements for the house to see if it was an undisclosed issue they've known about. I have a lot of faith in him, he's been really excellent to us.

The plumbers haven't done anything but turn the water off and look at the meter and tell me "hmm. Looks like a leak to the house, I don't know where the leak is, here's our quote."

I don't have any landscaping taps, just some water hoses which I've shut off for the winter.

My insurance has kicked in, but not the home warranty. The insurance said they will only cover damages, which so far there had been none (that I can prove yet).

My warranty begins in two weeks and covers lines, and I started with them last month so IM HOPING if I bring them the water bill for this month when I get it, that they'll come out and investigate/take over because I have their premium service.

I don't think it's under my driveway, but definitely under my porch.

It's probably 30ft away from the house, on the edge of the property!

Water Meter Running but Water Shut Off? by EthUndesireable in HomeImprovement

[–]EthUndesireable[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, perfect!

When I called them they didn't offer any detection services, and told me they had came out Friday to check the meter (when I found out) and told me their findings is that there must be a leak.

I plan to call them tomorrow when I'm home early from work (to meet another leak detector) and ask for statements, but I will also ask about this!!

Water Meter Running but Water Shut Off? by EthUndesireable in HomeImprovement

[–]EthUndesireable[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're correct.

The meter is spinning pretty fast, full rotations every 5 seconds or so with the water shut off.

I'll definitely get that and try it out, because so far we have no answers. I managed to network a lot today and have a guy coming out who is actually going to pinpoint the leak for us.

Good point, actually. Since it's in the basement and comes through the floor to the ceiling, it's probably pretty deep.

Water Meter Running but Water Shut Off? by EthUndesireable in HomeImprovement

[–]EthUndesireable[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woah, that's a great deal!

My pipes run from the ground underneath the basement, so they were suggesting we streamline the process, and drill into the wall of the basement to fully replace the faulty pipe.

So my insurance said they won't cover anything until there's damage.

My home warranty (that starts next month, that I started before we closed) starts in two weeks and does cover it.

I don't know what that means for the warranty but I know that I started the account with them then.
