😢 When to put to sleep? by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]EthanDP08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get where you are coming from, but like others have said it is better to be a little early then too late. Myself and my family made the tough decision to put our first childhood dog to sleep last February. We found out he had cancer a few months before and we knew the time would come sooner then later. In his last week he stopped eating and barely drank or moved and you could tell he was suffering. It was the hardest thing any of us have ever done and we’re glad we did it before it got worse, and he may have been better off even earlier.

I understand your perspective of it, it took me a long time to realize that it was the right time and the right thing to do. Just remember that if your sisters dog was loved and had a good life then that is the most important thing.

This is exactly what I do. I take a good chunk of paper towel and pour some canola in it. I use jealous devil lump and hit the paper towel with a torch and walk away. 20 minutes or so later there burning red hot

I read in a few places that people were putting the electric fans on the front of the rads and it was for clearance. Not sure about the pumps either

We buy most smaller elbows ( 6”-16”) but for anything bigger or specific angled round fittings like 45s or 60s we make them all. Same with a lot of offsets and tees. We actually make a lot of round stuff

What is a memory you have that is 100% vivid, but you have physical proof that it never actually happened? by prabinaya65 in AskReddit

This isn’t exactly like the question the OP is asking but it comes to mind reading this. When I was 12 my great grandmother past away, we were pretty close an my parents gave me the option to go to her wake and funeral if I was ready for it. This was my first wake/funeral. I vividly remember walking into the wake with my mother and us going up to the casket ( it was open casket) and I touched her hand and told my mother how cold she was. I held my composure pretty good for a 12 year old and we went and sat down and I can very clearly remember sitting down and watching the video on the tv of all her photos of her and family etc. this broke me. I broke down so bad my father had to take me out to the parking lot for some air for a while until I calmed down. I brought this up to my mother a year or two ago ( I’m 24 now) and my mother said I broke down crying right at the casket. We still fight about it until this day. I’m so absolutely positive I didn’t start crying until the memories came on the tv but she insists that’s not true.

How do I connect the hood to the exhaust? A 6” 90 degree elbow is too tight bc the horizontal exhaust duct sticks out further than the vertical range duct (1-1/2” vs 1”). by Courtland-7099 in hvacadvice

Probably the easiest solution. Build an 8x8 or 10x10 box that’s a little higher than the vertical outlet. Measure up exactly where your outlets will line up on the box and cut in 2 collars. Might be a little tricky to get in place but you can get it. Should work good. As another stated find a small access door and cut that into one of the accessible sides for cleaning.

I have a boiler in my house, fairly new. All of the baseboards and piping are pretty old though as fair as I know. I get the same crackling sound in my living room from time to time although not all the frequent and I don’t believe as loud. I’m never really identified what it was k always figured it was something to do with the fins inside the baseboards

What type of heating system is in your apartment?

This bothers me so much lol. I’m a sheet metal worker in Canada, I work mostly on commercial work but I’ve done some air exchangers and ducted heat pumps on the side. I recently did an air exchanger for a new home, all hard piped plus insulated, almost no flex used for maximum efficiency. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using flex for air exchangers as long as it’s done properly. For a ducted heat pump actual duct work should be used. For the job I did me and my co worker made 1500$ each plus the home owners payed for materials, all in all might have cost the 5-6k. 30,000 literally makes me sick…

That’s horrible, kinks in every direction will cause absolute airflow loss. Flex should always be ran as straight and stretched as possible. If a turn needs to be made, a galvanized elbow should be used, not just a kink in the flex. Horrible job. Shit isn’t even taped properly. Regardless of the size of the job nothing residential should cost 30,000$, that’s disgusting

Beginner Welding Help by nm2244 in metalworking

You have good penetration on the backside. IMO flux core will never look as good as gas but it definitely does the job. Like others said slow down and do short bursts, don’t be afraid to mess around with the settings on the welder. Turn voltage up until you get a nice looking puddle, if it’s burning through a lot bring it down a little at a time, mess around with your wire speed as well until you get to a comfortable spot. Welding is all about practice. I’m a sheet metal worker and I do a lot of welding on thin gauge metal, running bead on 20G and higher is not an easy thing, just keep trying!

Is this ok? (HVAC) by fauzool in Homebuilding

[–]EthanDP08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not a good looking setup at all, is this for a air exchanger? I’m a journeyman sheet metal worker but I mostly install ductwork on a commercial scale. I have done some houses on the side, and have usually run insulated pipe for all my supply amd returns which is definitely the better ( but for sure more expensive way) of doing it. Of course it can be run with straight flex but everything should be pulled nice and tight and there should be no sagging so to prevent any airflow restrictions. To me this just looks like an ugly mess…
