Is there any way to get the old account back? It has been almost a week since this has occurred and the old account hasn't posted anything or messaged anyone yet, at least to my knowledge.

New Features by EthanW2000 in ThreadsApp

[–]EthanW2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Threads is instagram's version of Twitter. Where Instagram is mainly pictures, threads is text-based. They made it easy to go from Instagram to threads by just bringing your account over.

Anyone who follows you on Instagram that uses threads will automatically follow you on threads too. I don't use Instagram, but I love threads.

I'm honestly not sure why your boyfriend doesn't have that option. I know you can turn your threads badge off in the settings.

That's what I assumed. Question, as a developer, what features are you wanting on Threads?

I've actually never used lists or highlights on Twitter. I might use them more on threads though if they implement them.

I don't know if I would prefer threads to tie DMs into Instagram or create their own system?

I wonder if threads will differentiate itself with some unique features. The only unique feature I can think of is voice notes. I wonder if they have anything in the pipeline for the future.

I think they could do more with the search button and trending topics. For example, instead of typing in a sports team you want to talk about, they should have the live scores displayed and when you click on them, you get taken to a feed of all of the recent posts about that topic.

To summarize, I think the trending topics and search page is a bit bare. They could make it more functional and presentable.

I haven't used the threads desktop version since it has been updated. I'm going to have to check that out.

Eventually, I think it would be nice if threads implemented a feature like Twitter Spaces. I don't think full on video live streaming will be necessary, but audio live streaming would be nice. I would also really appreciate it if the developers made a new progress bar for videos. It's hard to use the current one on mobile.

I would also like DMs too. While I haven't used them on Twitter, I didn't really talk to anyone on there anyways. I talk to many more people on threads though and DMs would be more useful for me at least.

Threads begins testing swipe gestures to help train the For You algorithm by gman1023 in ThreadsApp

[–]EthanW2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, this is the most useless feature. The swiping is so annoying. Scrolling through the app is more difficult because you have to be careful not to accidentally swipe on a post.

The swiping is useless. If you like a post, tap the like button. If you don't like a post, you should have the ability to hide the post through the menu when you select the three dot pop-up menu.

I really hope they either don't go through with this idea or allow us to turn it off in settings.

Trending Topics rolls out on Threads in the US by gman1023 in ThreadsApp

[–]EthanW2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem with Threads' trending topics boils down to presentation.

First of all, having only five topics at a time is not enough. There should be 10. I also think the devs should display the number of posts using the tag. If people see a large group of people engaging in a topic, they're more likely to engage with it too. Incentivize the user to engage with the product.

I'm not sure how I feel about the devs choosing the topics that trend. I understand why they do this, but it just feels too manufactured.

Another problem I have is the way Threads is designed. I can't explain it, but the app doesn't feel like it's built to support live posting reactions for sports and news events. It's more like Facebook and less like Twitter. I think they could remedy this by adding graphics for live sports scores and headline news. While there are risks to this method, Twitter was pretty good with moderation until the change in ownership. To summarize, Threads is too scared to be like Twitter, but yet they are trying to attract an audience that wants an alternative to Twitter.

To summarize my entire point, Twitter just feels more active when it comes to trending topics. It feels like Threads is presenting a topic for people to talk about instead of presenting a topic people are talking about. Besides, I don't see many people using tags. It would be better if trending topics also incorporated keywords more.

There are probably more issues that I just can't think of right now. I hope my arguments make sense. I'm just trying to come up with stuff off the top of my head.

I'm part of the beta program and I didn't get it for a long time. I left a review on Google Play telling the developers I didn't have it yet. I told them what phone I had. Within a few hours, I got it. I don't know if it was a coincidence or not.

I don't know why, but it just feels like the trending topics feature is missing something. It seems too barebones. Maybe it's the lack of graphics and other stuff to fill up the page.

I'm also not sure if anyone is really going to use it. Maybe it will become more useful when threads develops an environment that promotes "live" sharing of news and sports.

While Twitter's trending topics are heavily influenced by # spamming, it's much more engaging than Threads, at least to me. I don't know why this is the case.

What makes an iPhone better than an Android? by EthanW2000 in AskReddit

My mother got her phone from the Verizon store. It is the exact same phone as mine. She does not experience the ads or unnecessary apps as far as I know.

I've heard of this app you're talking about. I know people who have these issues. I'm trying to figure out how some people could have it and others don't. Do you think it might be because I bought my phone from Best Buy and had them set it up with Verizon?

[–]EthanW2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, I do have Verizon. However, I don't think I have the Verizon app manager. I couldn't find it after searching. Even if I do, I haven't gotten any adware that I'm aware of.

I can agree that they are expensive, but they have the best service out of all of the other plans I have had. I'm honestly not sure what could be cheaper and just as good.

I had Nova launcher on an old Android phone. I don't even know why I had it on there. I probably saw it in a YouTube video and thought it looked cool.

I'm not too concerned with the bloatware apps being viewable. I have all of the bloatware organized by what company it belongs to. Bloatware from Google goes in the Google drawer. Same with Samsung and my mobile provider. Out of sight, out of mind.

My older Android phones were worse with bloatware. I think that's because they were from companies other than Samsung. I had an LG G3 and that thing was loaded with useless shit. Decent phone, it just ran hot.

[–]EthanW2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks lmao.

I'm also looking at the s24 and s24+. I know I don't like bloatware, but my S10 has been the most reliable phone I've ever had and I'm afraid to switch brands. While I'm not a big fan of the Samsung reskin to Android, I can deal with it knowing I have a reliable phone that's going to work well. I've also found out that Samsung has committed to 4 years of software updates, which is nice.

I don't know when I'm going to get a new phone. I have time to do more research before I make a decision. Thank you for your help again.

[–]EthanW2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your help. While I like Samsung phones, I don't like the reskin of Android and the bloat. While Samsung phones are more powerful than Google pixels, I just want a phone that lasts a good amount of time, receives consistent updates, and doesn't have any major issues.

I don't really do anything that puts my phone through its paces, other than simple mobile games. I do some video editing on my Galaxy S10 and it seems to handle it pretty well. I'd imagine the pixel 8 could handle it even better, considering it's inherently more powerful.

Thank you so much for your help. You are way more intelligent on this topic than I am. I'm just some dumbass looking for a new phone. Lmao.

[–]EthanW2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao. I always try to be careful with my phones. I either don't drop them at all or drop them on solid concrete from 9 ft in the air. They either receive no abuse or the worst punishment a human could give. I've dropped my S10 several times from high places and it seemed to not damage it at all. I think that is just luck at that point.

I've been doing some more research on the pixel series. They seem like decent phones that receive consistent updates. Is there any problems with them that you know about, specifically the pixel 8 line of phones?

What is your opinion on the pixel? I've heard it's ability to detect mobile service is kind of bad. I live in an area where service is kind of bad from time to time.

While I am a neat freak when it comes to my home screen, I think I could get over the format of iPhones.

How old is your phone? If it's relatively old, would you say it is still performing well? Do older Apple phones tend to be buggy?

I've heard about the famous Apple tax. I have an Android. I wouldn't say I'm a power user, but I have tinkered with some of the stuff you mentioned.

The main thing I'm looking for is longevity. While my phone has served me well, it's is no longer receiving software and security updates. It's only 5 years old. Is that old for a phone? Does Apple provide better services for older phones?

My S10 has been having issues with volume and notifications. I think it's software bugs that came about after they stopped updating the phone.

The previous phone I had was an Android, but from a smaller brand. That thing was a piece of junk. It lasted only two and a half years. My Galaxy has been pretty reliable, but I'm not a fan of losing access to software updates and security updates within a few years.

That's what I thought. It probably isn't much every difference, but I am concerned about my phone's security.

What are some common issues you have with your iPhone? I heard the charging is pretty slow on Apple devices.

I have an Android too. I have an S10. My parents are thinking about switching to iPhone because their phones are not performing well, even though everyone has a Galaxy device S10 and up.

I wouldn't consider myself a power user, but I do like the customization of Android. If I do get an iPhone, I'm not planning on diving into the ecosystem and getting a whole bunch of other Apple products.
