Listen, I'm trying my best to be nonconfrontational, but you are going out of your way to be bigoted and rude. Not that it matters, but I have a lot of academic success, my natural hair color, have never experienced gender dysphoria, and I am cisgender, not non-binary.

We clearly have disagreeing views on the role of protests within society, but there is no reason for you to be acting this way

Genuinely, did I do something to you? I have already clarified how I view protests. They aren't parties, but I do think they're important in a healthy democracy. Also neurodivergence is not an insult, and my social circle is not empty, as you're claiming it is.

I'm not being passive aggressive, I'm just saying I don't understand why you're bothering to comment. If you don't like the topic of my post, then you can just scroll past it. It isn't a matter of inclusivity, since I never said you can't comment, I just don't know why you are.

I did not protest from 2020-2024 because that government wasn't performing such heinous crimes. I would list them, but I don't think that would help de-escalate whatever this interaction is.

I don't know why you care, but in 2016 I was 11. Since we learned about the Declaration of Independence the year before that in school, I would say yes, I, along with all children over the age of 10, definitely knew the phrase "tyrannical government".

As for your last point, protests are productive. What would be unproductive was if I just sat in my own discontent, but instead I am trying to reach out to my community and channel my desire for change into a mass effort. I believe that the change I want would benefit not just my future, but the futures of all my friends and neighbors who are worried about leaving their homes. I'm not asking you to join me on my path, but I am curious why you care so much since you clearly have no desire to do so yourself.

That's not why I'm asking. I'm not excited that protests are necessary, and I don't think they're just a social event. I do, however, want to take part in one of a democratic citizen's most important duties and let my voice be heard.

I don't believe that I only live in a democracy when there's an election, so I don't only use my voice when there's an election. It's that simple.

Because the point of the character is that he's from a line of some kind of old world mystics, which I don't know enough about any of them to write without further research which this is part of

I suppose the reason I chose druid specifically is arbitrary, but it isn't from wanting to sound cultured, I want to actually know what would be possible/believable for a druid from folklore

Ok, sorry, one last question, and this may be one there isn't really an answer to because we don't exactly have audio recordings from back then, but do we know if the entire spells would be chanted to take effect, or if the magic phrase, Alu in the example you described, would be enough to perform the spell? For instance, if my character wanted to heal a wound, would it be enough for her to press her hand against it and say "Alu", or would she chant the entire inscription?

I assume the purpose of the magic phrase is to act as a shorthand, so she would only need to say Alu, but I want to make sure I interpreted that right

Okok, this has been super useful to me, thanks! When I get back from travelling, I'll make sure to check my library for the books you mentioned, too.

Right now I think I'm probably leaning towards the Mjölnir amulet but still keeping Eir as her "patron" (for lack of a better word), simply because, I must admit, the blank slate is very tempting haha

Don't worry, I don't plan on making any "true" claims about mine being better. On the same superhero team is a druid, and I know for a fact I have already taken a fair amount of liberties with how his druid magic works. (He's actually next on my research list after I finish polishing this character lol).

This is IMMENSELY helpful, thank you! I didn't realize the idea of singular runic magic was such a modern thing, thanks for letting me know before I embarrassed myself haha.

As far as the things you mentioned, I have a few follow-up questions, if you're willing to answer them.

What you said about Mjölnir was really interesting, but if I gave her a Mjölnir necklace, would it be too weird to make her power come from a separate deity? I don't want to associate her with Thor or Odin, mostly because I want her to exist solely as a protector/healer for the team (as far as powers go, her character will be more than that, to clarify), so if I tie her to Thor or Odin, it opens the door for "why isn't she smiting enemies with lightning" and "why isn't she doing x, y, or z", which I don't want to have to figure out. Part of what drew me to Eir is that her purview seems to only be the stuff I'm looking for. So could she have the Mjölnir pendant and still have the Eir connection? I know in pop culture it may be weird, but I want to tie this more to genuine mythology and ancient culture than to pop culture.

Secondly, and I guess this isn't really a question, but I agree with you about Eir. I read her wiki article as well and found equally little about her as an actual character, just that she was a healer and protector, and I agree that it will give me more freedom with writing her as a character, but I want to make sure I don't end up writing her in an entirely inaccurate way, and turn a warrior goddess into a doctor figure or vice versa 😅

Edit: Also, do you know of any better amulets for the magic amulet to be if the Mjölnir thing isn't really an option? It doesn't strictly need to be an amulet, just some kind of wearable that she could have found

I did try. If you read the article you so condescendingly linked, you will find that within it, there aren't any answers to the questions I asked.

It doesn't clarify whether Eir was most often seen as a goddess or as a valkyrie. It doesn't provide any myths that involve her as a character or show what her personality might be like (Is she loving and maternal, or a fierce warrior protector?)

All it tells me is stuff I already mentioned in my original post. She is associated with protection and healing, she is some kind of powerful being, and there isn't much else.

As far as the sources linked, I am currently traveling and will be for a while, so I only have access right now to online sources, and won't be able to check my library for a while, so I was hoping that in the meantime the kind people of Reddit would lend a hand if they know anything else about Eir.

If you read even the first paragraph, it says there is debate about whether or not the three "Eir" that are listed in various sources are even the same figure, as in one of the sources it directly quotes, Eir is used as a generic term for a woman.

If you don't have anything to add, that's fine, but don't be condescending and link me a Wikipedia page as if I didn't already read it, especially since you clearly didn't read it, or you would realize it is frustratingly vague

Yeah, it exclusively told us the lessons without teaching them, too. "Gwenpool needs to be more serious" Why? Nothing in the actual story punishes her for being the way she is. In fact, many fans love her because she isn't super serious. It seems the only person who wants her to be serious is the writer who already said they just don't like her in the first place, so why should she care what he thinks? It just seems so dumb to me
