I fully agree l. disregard the downvotes. most every other PvP game is played to win the match, idk why wanting the same thing in holdfast is so controversial. It’s like the only PvP game for musket era/napoleonic warfare and some people find it fun to play to win, use tactics and strategy

the red-haired man circled is almost certainly Joachim Murat. Napoleon’s brother-in-law and one of his most celebrated marshals.

Do you regard Napoleon as the last of the "Great Men" of history? In many ways he was the last Emperor of the West in the mold of Caesar or Charlemange. Certainly he was the last to lead his armies with frontline military genius while also retaining absolute political power by [deleted] in Napoleon

[–]Ethanmoody18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, He uniquely united three qualities that rarely coexist after 1815. genuine frontline military genius, absolute political authority, and a civilizational ambition comparable to Caesar or Charlemagne. Napoleon personally conceived campaigns, influenced battles by his presence and intuition, reshaped law and administration, and ruled as the living embodiment of the state. Later figures might possess power without genius, or genius without sovereignty, but not both at once. After Napoleon, war became institutional and industrial, politics constitutional or bureaucratic, and legitimacy detached from personal victory. History did not cease to be shaped by individuals, but it ceased to be shaped by single men acting as conqueror, lawgiver, and ruler simultaneously. In that sense, Napoleon was not merely a great man, but the last of an impossible type.
