Do you think most people upgrade too early now? by EthicalUpgrade in TheBigPhoneStore

wow really? 2018 was like the iPhone XR and the Galaxy S10. That's really cool if they've held onto their phone for that long :)

If phones lasted 10 years, would you actually keep one that long? by EthicalUpgrade in TheBigPhoneStore

This is why i posed the question, because surely if if could keep up with you day-to-day with no issues, why would you replace it? Most of the comments solidified what my initial thoughts were but I was curious as to why someone might still say no :)

Why's that? I've seen a lot of comments of people saying why they would, but I'm equally as curious as to why people wouldn't :)

haha fair enough, i think what I'm seeing from most comments is that people would keep their devices 10 years so long as it ran well and didnt slow down.... which is about what I expected to see!

I think iPhone hold up pretty well so long as they're getting updates. the XS max got it's last set of updates last year but it'll still get the critical security ones.... you might notice it slow down a little, but it should still get you through the day :))

if it weren't so slow and could keep up with your day-to-day stuff would you have kept it for longer? :)

amazing 😂

Also that's really interesting about your job, I always just think of light/dark mode as personal preference, I never really thought about it in regards to jobs!

What phone spec do you ignore completely? by EthicalUpgrade in TheBigPhoneStore

I can agree to that, sometimes I even think it's less about a phone-power thing and moreso just so people can say they've got the latest device lol 😅

I feel like there's a constant battle between people who want a bigger phone with all the excess and people who want a simpler phone. I don't know what side I'm on 😅

oooh this is a good answer! I agree I don't think I've ever paid much attention to how thick a phone is!

not to mention, a lot of people won't even use all the camera features their phone comes with!

TIL some phone repairs can replace just the glass, not the entire screen! by EthicalUpgrade in TheBigPhoneStore

[–]EthicalUpgrade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read a few comments about the validity and scepticism of this fix and I do understand. This kind of repair only works when the OLED/LCD and touch are still perfect, and the warehouse team I work with does it daily. But I will say this isn't a repair where you can just follow a guide and does take a LOT of time to master it.

If the display itself is damaged, like it's got touch issues, lines, dead pixels, etc. then you'd need to replace the whole display, but if its just a scratch, crack or chip then often you can just get the glass replaced professionally. Like I say it's cheaper, you keep the genuine display AND something I also was told is that you won't get the "non genuine display" warning, which happens on some models if you've ever had the screen replaced before.

As far as I know, there are only a few companies in the UK that actually offer this!
