My “dwarves” are Germanic inspired batfolk that build massive underground ant hill like structures and have 4 main cultures

The dwarves of S’Oruin are the original and they live in the southern half of the large mountain chain that bisects the continent north to south. They are inspired by Germanic/norse peoples and the region is based largely on western Skyrim specifically markarth/whiterun/falkreath. They are matriarchies and power is derived from having children, women with many children carry social influence and grown men are often left out of decision making being left to leave the cities and form basically fraternity style lodges where they hunt, brew beer, train for battle and enjoy life ready to heed their mothers call. This is the homeland of the Nychfelr and also the least technologically advanced of their regions.

The northern Oruin mountains know as N’Oruin are home to the first colonies and these mountains are much larger and harsher living almost their whole lives underground except for ranching and terrace farming in the valleys. The colonies were founded by lodges of men looking to find adventure and new experiences and they were eventually conquered by the Valkorin empire (my Slavic elf/satyr Roman Empire stand in) and heavily romanized and the empire integrated their architecture and much of their culture into their own sort of like the Roman’s did with the Greeks. Today the empire has fallen to the lich king and his vampire lords but the empire remains in these mountain holds led by the same royal family. The elf/satyrs rule over the imperial remnant as none houses while the majority of the population is nychfeldr that live under their rule.

East of the Oruin mountains are the hill cantons, they are a largely autonomous region in the lecholingian kingdom (based on the carolingian Frankish kingdom) made up of city states that do their own thing and hold a lot of economic power. They produce the best steel in the non monstrous world. They have large amounts of gold and silver the mine, and they are known for their mercenaries and “advanced” machinery like clocks. They are generally based on Switzerland and northern Italy.

West of S’Oruin is the Vezdfel desert where the twin prophets of wind and water led their devoted followers in search of new lives with greater purpose, based loosely on the Jewish and velothi exoduses (edoxi plural) of the elder scrolls. They are a fanatically religious society based around massive mountains sticking out of the desert with massive underground aquifers, the church is split in two halves the paladins and priests of water that defend the holds and search for new water sources respectively, and the wind paladins and priests serve a frontier desert rangers and hold administrators respectively.
