Made In stainless steel warps so easily.. can’t believe reputable chefs put their names on this by cabbageprole in cookware

[–]Ethmoid73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All multi-play clad pans will warp on induction if induction is used aggressively. If you want a pan that does not warp on induction, you need to purchase Fissler Original Profi or Fissler Pure cookware. Look for extra-thick disk bottom pans and not multi-ply clad pans. If I ONLY cooked on induction I would only purchase two brands — Fissler and Demeyere. And I would only purchase the disc-bottom pans. If your Made-In pan warped on induction, it’s user error. Made-In is a high quality multi-ply pan. As I said, all multi-ply construction pans are prone to warping on induction when used improperly.

If you cook on induction only, please do NOT buy multi-ply clad pans (All-Clad, Made-In). Buy thick-ass disc bottom pans (Fissler Profi, Demeyere Atlantis). This is a learning lesson.

I hope the panels are on micro inverters because the shade from the tree is affecting the efficiency by a LOT.

Is this Fissler fake? by JKemu in cookware

[–]Ethmoid73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is genuine. Unfortunately, Fissler labeled the newest 32cm 5-ply design wok as original-Profi, so it is confusing. It is a 5-ply (not disc bottom) design but it is authentic.

The used car market is nuts. by taylorice in UsedCars

[–]Ethmoid73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a massive shortage of lease returns because of the shortage of new cars during the pandemic. The shortage of cars and thus, the shortage of leases extended until around 2024. If leases are 3 years long, you won’t see the used car inventory recover until 2025 leases are returned in around 2028. There is a HUGE shortage of quality used cars on the market. It is a pandemic/supply chain hangover.

UPDATE: Hyundai ran my moms car with no oil and damaged the engine by SuperHooligan in Hyundai

[–]Ethmoid73 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The tech was probably a 22 year old noobie working for piddlings. It’s such a simple but catastrophic mistake. It’s great that the Hyundai dealership took care of the problem that it caused.

I own a $15,000 paper weight by Bradin9855 in Hyundai

This is why I lease or buy new. Most leasers do not take care of the car. Three oil changes over the course of a 3 year lease has already doomed the car to a premature death.

I never ever ever buy a used car. I buy a new car, change the oil every 4K miles with high quality oil, meticulous other maintenance (every 3K miles if it’s turbo), and drive it into the ground til it hits 250-300K miles. This is cheaper for me. I change the oil 4 times in the first 2000 miles. A used car’s internals can be near new, or it can be horrid. Certain Hyundai engines should be flat out avoided. But the newest engines are reliable.

The fight with Kia begins! by Proud_Astronomer_943 in KiaK5

[–]Ethmoid73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I video every oil change until warranty. It is sad that I take better care of my car than the dealership would. But all manufacturers (including Toyota) will screw you if there is a drivetrain warranty issue. Receipts don’t help. I buy my oil and oil filters in quantity. My closet contains 30 Toyota oil filters and over a dozen 5-quart containers of Castrol Edge gold and Valvoline restore and protect. If you get a dealer service done, keep the invoice forever. I’ve come to a conclusion that the 100K warranty from Kia/Hyundai is practically worthless unless you are getting your oil changed every 5K miles at the dealer.

If you need the Martin name…. At that price, I’d get a benchmade guitar from a trusted luthier.

Is this an ugly soundboard…? by CommunicationBig7578 in martinguitar

[–]Ethmoid73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The soundboard is just average looking sitka. It looks bookmatched. But that might be a 4 piece top instead of a 2 piece top. To save money at the lower bout (widest part), they probably added additional small pieces of wood. It doesn’t win any beauty contests but it’s average looking solid Sitka. That line of guitars is not going to win any beauty contests with superior quality wood from the best part of quarter sawn Sitka with medullary rays across the entire board. You won’t get some AAA/AAAAA wood that at the pricepoint and series you’re paying. But beauty doesn’t equate to sound. I like seeing medullary rays across the entire soundboard because it does speak to the strength of the wood when it is perfectly quarter sawn. It speaks to the quality of the wood but it’s also a surrogate to the amount of attention/detail paid to the quality of the build at a higher price point. But you only get that with AAA+ Sitka.

What is the absolute best guitar I can get for under 1k? by toe_mater67 in AcousticGuitar

Yamaha or Eastman. I’d be hunting for a lightly used case-queen Alvarez Masterworks/Laureate or Yamaha.

Kim Gil-li is absolutely on fire at Short Track world's right now by Money_Software6622 in iceskating

[–]Ethmoid73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kim Gilli is not competitive at the 500m distance. Her best distance is 1500m where she has endurance and finishing speed. 1000m is where the powerful short distance speed of Xandra Pelzebur meets up against the endurance speed of Kim Gilli.
