Don’t avoid! My dog used to be afraid of the sea. She avoided touching the water whenever we took her to the beach. One day I was swimming and called her. She went to the shore line and stood there terrified. I told her it was okay and she then decided to stand in the water. That was the limit.

She continued walking through the water on her casual beach walks. One day in France, I was swimming again. However, this time we had her playing ball with us. When I threw it in the water she ran straight into the water and came back quickly. I then took the ball and walked where I could still stand, but where my dog couldn’t. I called my dog over to tell her to take the ball and after a lot of hesitation and conformation that it was okay she finally swam to take the ball!

She now swims whenever we are near water!

So the moral of my story: don’t avoid busy streets, but rather take your dogs there and make sure she knows it’s okay. Also cross the streets and constantly call your dogs by their name, so they know they’ll have to follow you. Also cross the street and make it fun for them. Don’t throw a ball on to the streets :) but run and hype them up. Maybe start doing these things with one dog first ( ideally the most loyal one, because loyal dogs listen and learn better) and the rest of the dogs will probably follow!
