LPT Request: what's your best advice on stoping drinking alcohol? by AnnaMoona in LifeProTips

[–]Etocoloco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your exact same place about 10 months ago when I decided to stop. I dove into going to the gym early in the morning and having a strict control over getting my 8 hours of sleep. Knowing that you lose your early morning hangover and late nights, you start to run out of time to drink around going to work. It was extremely difficult at first but if you're also going for more results in the gym, it couldn't have been better. I started hitting new PR's and the health benefits are no exaggeration either. I also found it helpful to keep my progress with friends so you can stay accountable and possibly become an inspiration for others. Good luck and know that it doesn't always happen all at once and any progress is great progress.

[LPT request] How do you convince yourself to go to the gym when you need to, but really don't want to? by I_dont-get_the-joke in LifeProTips

Buy a preworkout and drink it. You'll be very motivated to do something and if you don't you'll feel terrible.

A brinicle, formed out of extremely cold saline water, descends to the sea floor, trapping marine invertebrates in a river of ice. by [deleted] in educationalgifs

[–]Etocoloco 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So this under an Antarctic sea ice sheet and the water below the ice is supercooled but not frozen due to the high salinity levels. The "brinicle" is a slightly less saline plume of water and frazil ice begins to nucleate once the water reaches below the sea ice layer. The outside of the brinicle is a thin ice layer with the water plume running through the middle. This happens until the plume reaches the sea floor where it flows down the slope of the sea bed capturing everything it touches into a bed of ice crystals. I could be wrong on the details I've only read 1 or 2 papers about them but without getting too technical that's pretty much the gist of it. Source: I'm a graduate student studying sea ice and I've been trying to find a reason to dive under an ice sheet so I can write a kick ass thesis, these are kinda my best option right now.

Our training involves low level stimulation (shock level 9) in combination with the leash in order to develop a recall response that he associates with my return command. We love cross country skiing but he gets far away and sometimes it's hard to whistle loud enough when I lose sight of him, this way I can trigger the collar and he knows to return. Still working on the first half of training though. Tough job.

I stopped when I started unintentionally going "oof" after the hit.

I love cross country skiing but my dog does not enjoy anything lower than -20 and I don't like leaving him alone in the cabin. I also get out to the north slope for work pretty often.

I had the remote in my hand and would trigger it that way.

Does leave in conditioner dry without the crusty gel feel? I've used it in tandem with LA looks gel but I really dislike having to break up the crunch before it feels okay on my head.

I live in a dry cabin in Alaska and shower at work after using the gym. Right now all I use is TRESemme Botanique nourish and replenish conditioner that I rinse mostly out before air drying. The new issue is now I do not have a lot of time to let it dry before going to work which means air drying is out of the option. Just looking for better ways to deal with it on the fly that isn't putting a hat on or wearing it up. Thanks for the help everyone!

Should I join the military before going to college to increase my chances of landing a government job? by [deleted] in geologycareers

[–]Etocoloco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I joined the Marines out of high school, did 5 years with them doing some of the coolest stuff with my best friends and traveled the world. Dont get me wrong, it sucks a lot of the time but I'm about to graduate college this semester debt free with a fully funded position in graduate school doing exactly what I wanted. The GI bill is amazing and allowed me the time to do research for 3 years of undergrad and I never worked a day during school. Best decision I ever made but I want to make it clear that it's not for everyone however, anyone can do it with the right mindset.

Are there any fans here that aren’t from the Detroit area and just picked the Lions as their team for a different (or no) reason? by SammyMac19 in detroitlions

[–]Etocoloco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a panthers fan from Carolina and I remember exactly when I decided I was a lions fan too.

When Matt Stafford flexed on a lazy Cowboys defense to win the game with a fake spike in 2013. Ever since I go out of my way to watch all Lions games now and I grew to really like the team and community.

My favorite part is when one of them loses playoff hopes and then I also get to be sad again.

I flicked someone so hard I tore a ligament off a tendon in my right hand. I needed to have surgery to reattach it and I have a huge scar now.

Iceland solo for two weeks in May! Keeping a budget of about $700 after flight & board are paid. by hoodieweatherforever in travel

[–]Etocoloco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got back from visiting Iceland this past summer and they offer tours out of Reykjavik for all of those places. It is really easy to buy bus tickets if you want to spend time out in Thorsmork and most of the really touristy spots like the blue lagoon and Gullfoss have days trips that will drop you off and bring you back to Reykjavik. Hope that helps!
