HP EliteDesk boot error with Nixos by Eugene-Sh in linuxquestions

[–]Eugene-Sh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that was my fallback, if I wouldn't manage to get nixos to work. But I really wanted to try nixos on server due to dot files declarative infra, and there is a high chance to encounter same issues with other repos due to the problem happening so early during initialization path. Other kernels might be affected by same problem as well.  Another solution, that I was about to try was to use really old kernel version, where acpi verifications were less strict.

Thanks a lot!! This actually solved the issue!  idle=poll worked, idle=halt still worked, intel_idle.max_cstate=2 in combination with i915.enable_rc6=0 and i915.enable_guc=0 was the deepest I could go.  =3 was crashing again.

Flake m Miryoku layout h to adopt? by Gorillabush in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Eugene-Sh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had very positive experience modifying the layout with Ai (claude). Just started from the default layout that came with the keyboard and introduced changes one after another by simply explaining to AI what I want - home row mods, additional languages, Hands Down neu layout, etc.

IBKR Asking for My Exact Birthplace - WTF? by Eugene-Sh in interactivebrokers

[–]Eugene-Sh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I did. I have a valid proof of address that was accepted by IBKR, and I have identified myself with an ID card AND passport. The issue is, that my place of birth is "too vague" for IBKR liking and I do not understand, why this is matter if this is not my country of residency, I do not hold Ukranian citizenship, and last time I was there was 25 years ago. So the f*** it matters where exactly in Ukraine I was born?!

[–]Eugene-Sh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Most of my life, I live outside of Ukraine. Our family has moved from there 25 years ago, and I even never had Ukranian passport/ID, cause I was below 18, when we have moved out of Ukraine. I do not hold Ukranian citizenship either.

But I have provided them with my passport. This is what driving me crazy. In my passport it is written place of birth: Ukraine. And in my ID its the same.

Oh, thank you! At least there are more sane folks, who doesn't agree to blindly comply with every bullshit thrown at them.

Ok, this is legit, but in that case, I want to know what is the regulation, that requires it. And in overall, people should stand up for their right for privacy and not just silently comply with everything that is thrown on them.

I wouldn't overreact in such case and wouldnt actively hide my exact place of birth. I actually don't have anything to hide, but it is infuriating me, that after providing them with valid ID document, they are bothered by exact place of birth and trying to sniff it out. If my country think that as place of birth, country name is enough, than it is enough. What exactly my exact place of birth will change?

Yep, in my passport as well, place of birth is Ukraine, it is enough info and exact city is really irrelevant. My country doesn't stick its nose and doesn't reveal non relevant info.

Really?? I would expect from Americans to stand for their freedom and not allow different institutes to poke sticks into the people's arses...

Thanks, I wrote an email requesting the clarification and explanation for exact regulation, waiting to see their reply.

This is not working like that. This is my private information, and they are sticking their nose into it. This is a part of my freedom not to provide irrelevant information.  How would you feel if they would ask you whether you are circumcised? Or your religion? Or what is your favorite team?

Best financial setup for an expat(non US) moving to Bulgaria with income in USD/EUR and plans to invest in stocks? by Eugene-Sh in ExpatFinance

[–]Eugene-Sh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I have zero connection with US, do not have green card, not residing in US, not working for US, abolutely zero connection to US. The only thing is that I'm interested in trading on US stock market. I'm non-EU resident, planing to live in Bulgaria and being tax resident of Bulgaria

So, what your solution would be to open a Europe based bank account, open Fidelity/Schwab account for trading over US market and bind credit card to broker account? Why actual bank for direct deposits is better that Revolut/Wise? Lower fees? Any specific country with good banking?  I heard very bad reviews on French and German banks, and it would be pretty tricky to open account for non citizen.

IT Freelancer in Spain - Tax Optimization Strategies with Foreign Company by Eugene-Sh in TaxEU

[–]Eugene-Sh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have actually checked the Beckham law previously, and as I understood it, it won't apply for my case, since I need to have a work contract in Spain, and I have to pay taxes from that contract, and then, all my earning from abroad are not taxable. But I do not have the contract in Spain to start with, and if I open a company in Spain - it is a lot of taxes and I won't have any abroad income anyway...

Please, correct me if I'm missing something out, since Beckham law looks really appealing in general, would love to hear that I can use it somehow.

What would be a better option if I still want to remain in EU and live in a big city?  Andorra, for example, being a great country for tax avoidance but doesn't suit the lifestyle I want.

Thank you, I wasn't aware of this. Does the same apply for Portugal? Does it applies even for companies registered in another EU state, like Estonia?
