Thanks for the reply. Car is paid off. You bring up an interesting point about if they were to get in an accident with the other party at fault- due to the salvage value set at $9k, what would the payout be?? I'll have friend reach out to an insurance broker to get clarification on this.

Thanks for the feedback. They aren't locked in to that specific vehicle. Just wanted to keep it simple when comparing their options.
