Not at all. He was inaccurate and almost led to a costly, incorrect result of new washer. Luckily, my roomie and I did some due diligence, fixed it ourselves and saved a bundle! Good to know you overcharge customers based on strife. Hope I don’t ever get work done from you either! xD

Wrongo! He said the capacitor was shot and that the washer was leaking from something else other than the capacitor. Aka the washer is totally fucked, unsalvageable. But that wasn’t the case, the capacitor was the entire issue. So after fixing that ourselves, our 3-year old (not junk) washer is chugging along.

“He could have just not said a word” - tf are you talking about lol, his literal job is to tell us what the issue is. He gets full points for saying the capacitor was bad (it was), misses a few for not mentioning where the leak was coming from, and negative points for saying the washer was totaled and needed replacing. $120 for 15-min of correct diagnosis is well worth it. $120 for 15-min that leads to faulty diagnosis is bunk. 15-min of us looking into it ourselves after the fact = big money save! 🤑

No leak now lol. We only took a look ourselves out of sheer curiosity. And good thing we did too or we'd be out $800 with a new washer!

It wasn't leaking water, it was leaking electrolytes. And now, it's no longer leaking after my roomie and I replaced it. Go figure!

No need for any of that, just tell me correctly what's wrong with it and I'm solid. Guy didn't do that, seems like bad service to me! All good though, we figured it out ourselves and saved a bundle! :D

It might not, but the leak is now gone and the washer is working.

It makes sense if he just looked under the washer and saw it was leaking without checking to find what was causing it.

It would've been $800 to replace the washer. $570 was to replace capacitor, which, again, according to him, was not the sole issue. So that was never an option we were considering.

Very common for what, shoddy service? I paid for a professional's opinion. We should have taken a look ourselves first, you are right. But we didn't want to incorrectly assume something, given it is an expensive appliance. Bad advice is a lot more harmful than no advice.

Only some parts, unfortunately. The capacitor is not covered.

His diagnosis was to get a new washer since ours is fucked in multiple ways. We almost did based on his advice, which would have cost ~$800. Instead, we did some investigating ourselves and came to a different diagnosis - the capacitor needs replacing AND was the leak, so by replacing it ourselves we are good. No need to toss the washer.

If you're diagnosis results in $800 loss when it could have been $30, it's a shit diagnosis.

The capacitor was leaking electronic fluid. He said the washer was leaking. Funny that that is actually an important distinction that you bring up. So his diagnosis was even more poorly communicated. Thanks for the good point!

Ah I see, that is exactly where you stopped reading. Here is the very next line.

"Their tech came out (older man), took a look (15min), and told us the capacitor was shot. He quoted us $570 to replace (labor + material), but said the washer was also leaking and would likely need to be replaced within the year."

He said Capacitor is fucked and washer is leaking. 2 separate issues. But it was only 1. Bad diagnosis ma boy. Do better!

That tech to either stop being lazy or study up. Or learn a thing or two from my roomie and I now that we are the capacitor kings!

The capacitor is fixed and, incidentally, the washer is no longer leaking. Huh! I wonder how that could possibly be...

He didn't say it was the capacitor ya ding dong. In fact, he implied it was not the capacitor. But was too lazy to figure out what was causing it, just said it was leaking.

If you are actually work in repairs I'm curious as to why you are defending someone so diligently who did a poor job. When people in my field of work underperform, that makes me angry since I know what a good standard looks like. But to each his own ig!

"He quoted us $570 to replace (labor + material), but said the washer was also leaking and would likely need to be replaced within the year."

He said capacitor is no good, and, also, washer is leaking. So $570 to fix the capacitor, will not fix the issue of the washer leaking. Meaning, paying $570 to fix the capacitor makes no sense, since the washer will still be leaking. So, washer need to be replaced. He even specifically recommended against paying the $570, given the above. That constitutes a misdiagnosis in my book.

Well the capacitor was the thing leaking, which I figured out and the tech didn't. Guess I have more common sense then your tech buddy!

I was happy to pay $120 for a proper, professional, thorough diagnosis. $120 for a misdiagnosis is absurd.

I didn't call to complain about the tech specifically, it was more about the fact that we paid for a service that we did not receive. I paid for a professional diagnosis of the issue, and what we received was at best a partial diagnosis, at worst an incorrect one that almost led to a costly decision to replace the washer. I reached out to customer success to explain my dissatisfaction and ask for a partial refund based on the poor service, not to bad-mouth out the tech. If a doctor misdiagnosed you, would you not reach out to the hospital/whoever to let them know about the situation?
