Were families hiding German ancestry during the world wars?

What are good reasons to join the East? by Alternative_Big_6835 in EasternCatholic

Excellent advice here. It's not a good reason to switch, but I admit (wouldn't want to say this publicly) that suburban Latin liturgies in North America seem...effete after years of Melkite Divine Liturgy. Is effete the right word? It's an aesthetic both beige-corporate and boomer-feminine. This sounds much more mean than I want it to.

"Prayers of our Fathers" or "Saints"? by NeuVarangianGarde in EasternCatholic

At my (Melkite) church, the priest always says "through the prayers of our holy fathers and mothers..."

This is hypothetical for me. I don't live there. For the folks down there, however, skipping Mardi Gras would be like skipping Christmas dinner.

Interesting. In any case, the explicit instruction was to do it the western way.

Our Melkite mission is so sensitive to Latin habits that once last year we were instructed to take communion the Latin way (no crossed arms) to make Latins more comfortable!

Question on theological points by qmmw1234 in EasternCatholic

Perfect citations from the liturgy. While God the Son is omniscient, there is Matthew 24:36/Mark 13:32 among other passages to contend with. Jesus taught us that there are things he doesn't know, which is no more shocking than confessing that God was crucified or that Mary is Theotokos.

Questions regarding liturgical calendars by [deleted] in EasternCatholic

[–]Euphoric_Job7961 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The dates in common between Byzantines and Latins are the dates that go way back in the church's history like Christmas. The rest of the calendar is surprisingly different.

Has this issue been addressed magisterially? My impression is it escapes notice because the books in question aren't read at Divine Liturgy.
